It would depend on the herd, some are more social when it comes to players attacking them.
Fighting a lair with 3 or 4 isnt so bad but try fighting a herd of 30-50 or more.
A Jedi killing off an entire herd might be just the incentive for the Devs to bring Jedi inline with the rest of the playerbase.

that would be prety cool and iff they have like a matriach of the herd leading them who has lots of damage and armour
and what iff creature handerlers had the ability to track creatures it would make sense in a way
to stop farming of herds you could have the heards spawn in differnet places across the planet
well i think tracking creatures for CH makes sense

i agree there. Tracking is definently in the ralm of ranger imho. But i'd take the ability if offered!

I'd like to be walking around in the wild and hear animal sounds in the background. Like creeping around Corellia and hear a GPS howling in the background. Maybe not see it or having it on the radar, but hearing it.
Or as I'm sneaking up on some herbivore on Corellia, a Grand Wrix comes and attacks one. Or just in general carnivore vs. herbivore battles.

I'm all for herds. Another way to annoy the Jedi issue is to make some invulnerable. That would suck too, but who needs grinding?
ah forget that idea...
but seriously. I hate exploring the distant parts of planets and not even seeing a single animal. Come on, mountains should have "mountain goats" on Corellia. and is herds spawn in very remote areas, this makes it harder for Jedi to find them and destroy them. And of course there would be a leader, but once that leader dies you could have the herd disperse (disappear). Another way to annoy Jedi Grinders.

All that they need to do is to make herd animals give a max of 10 exp and only drop 1 unit of harvestable resources. That would prevent herd hunting in a big way.

However nothing is stopping us creature handlers from making them ourselves right now....seriously there are so many ways to make a herd with the pets we have. Like i said before we could get them all to follow one person or follow a creature which is on a patrol. I really think making a herd could be a really fun event.I have no doubt it would be fun for the first 10 min untill a CSR forced you to store all of them because of server lag.Why would they do that? Huge raids occur all the time and sometimes crash the server. So would it be fair for them to lag and crash the server as much as they want while us creature handlers get in trouble for it.CSR's tell CH's to store pets if they see them out with them in cornet because they "supposedly" cause lag while they say nothing to all the docs with droids out. Yea it sucks but thats the way it is
Really! We seem to be the 'whipping boys/girls' of the professions. >_<
The herd and predator/prey idea is really cool though. Squills usually lair/spawn near dewbacks which would most likely mean that dewbacks are their favorite prey. Only once in my whole playing career have I seen any sort of predator/prey relationship, and that was when a team of two mountain squills from a nearby lair stalked and attacked a mountain dewback and killed it. It was golden to watch.
Definately some great ideas here.
