Thread: The New system is promising but the amounts of time involved are ludicrous
DaBudo,
Good post, even if I don't agree with some of what you said. If you will notice though, most of us saying the new system is a (significant) improvement are also saying that the XP values may need adjusting, since atm they seem to be too high. I do not agree that this is just 'busy work' though - CH have been crying out for CH specific content since day one and, if hunting all over the galaxy looking for rare abilities to learn and train your favourite pets isn't CH content, I don't know what the heck is. No one is forced to use the new system, particularly by 'grinding' it out - pets today are just as effective as they were last week, but now the opportunity exists to hugely improve them in a way that is totally customizable by each individual CH.
So my main point remains the same - lets be constructive instead of ranting and whining, lets present a chesive argument about the XP requirements for each roll over being too high atm, and lets just forget about all this harping on back to events that happened months and years ago.
Oh, and to a certain person trying to tell everyone what the 'vets' are thinking - I was the 4th person to make MCH on my entire server, over a year before you even started playing, so just speak for yourself and let the real vets speak for themselves, mkay.

Wow the IQ level in this thread is really down. Its pure stupidity to deny the nerf. Pets had innate abilities, Blinding Strike, Area combo Etc. Now its been taken AWAY and you need to grind or tame new pets and *hope* they have abilities. Thats a nerf children.
But it also needs to be put into proper perspective. Every single profession was "nerfed" in the CU. At least CH has the ability to recover what we lost. Other professions simply don't have that option.
CH's grinded up, found pets with specific specials, took BE's out to collect specific speicals, pets nerfed in Oct 03, CH's had to start all over.
Ch's grind up, get rid of most of their old pets, research and find new pets, find out what specials work/don't work, take BE's out to collect all NEW specials. Pets nerfed in CU.
Now for a 3rd time, CH's have grind all over again. They are not arguing that the current system is bad, just that this is the 3rd "rebalancing" of the CH, and the 3rd Grind they have to do.
Which leaves the question, what keeps a 4th from happening??
So enjoy the new system, but realize it is the 2nd "New" system totally changing the CH in 2 years.
Heck, Jedi/FS has only had 1 major change, and it didn't effect existing characters like the CH changes have.
Side note, I like the new system, but a 3rd grind, well that's SWG I guess and it gives me something interesting to do
FYI, I am also doing FS grind, and CH grind for lvl 60+ pets is worse then the FS.

Agree, the new system is a significant improvement. Shoot, I can already see that it may turn out to be a GREAT improvement. As far as what is considered content, like I said, a matter of perspective. Hunting for rare abilities is fun - grinding out several million xp to teachyourpets isn't.
Yes, my pets are just as good as they were pre-publish. Which is abit like sayingthat thoseold 8-track tapesare just as good asthey werebefore CD players came along. A bit of an exaggeration, but I believe the point is valid. If I want viable pets, I have to teach them the new specials.
Absolutely, let's all stay constructive (and I sure know how hard that is!
) in voicing opinions. But I feel that what happened in the past is relevant to the xp issue. Because as a Master Creature Handler, because of all I've done in the past,I don't think that I should have to earn several more million xp to level up pets that I've had for up to 2 years - or even 2 months. Aside from the fact that the xp requirement, as you pointed out, is way too high for everyone, there should be some means of mitigating that grind for veterans.

i have a question about the time involved in learning the new pet skills. i tamed a ikopi, flewt and nightspider the day after pub 21. I followed some instructions on this site about how to go about getting the new skills....and had no success. Then decided to take my pets on large group hunts. Gaining more CH xp now with the harder enemy creatures.....still no new abilites learned. These 3 creatures are very low levels. All 3 have 4 slots open, and over 100 training points. A total of about 8 hours of fighting on each pet. Am I doing something wrong? I have followed all the tips people have posted but I haven't learned anything. Someone posted they learned a skill before they finished the first mob of fighting. I have done probably 50 mobs with my pets. I love being CH and like the new ideas that came with pub 21 but I am really struggling with it. Can anyone help me??????
Do those pets actually have abilities for you to learn? Look in the datapad, highlight the pet, and look at the info displayed on the side of the datapad (not "Examine"). If it has an ability, it'll be under the rest of the information on damage and such. Not all pets have abilities, so if they don't have them you may as well delete them.
