Me mum lives in Anchorage now. Moved into town from Chugiak. I live in AZ now where I was born. She's getting older now, as are we all. Next summer I'm taking her on a cruise through the inside passage. Last summer we took the old steam train up the Chilkoot pass.

I've become a tourist in the land I grew up.

I've never been to Anchorage... I've lived on the Panhandle pretty much all my life. I've never been further North than Skagway, nor further West than Sitka... though I've been to Excursion Inlet and am not sure if that might be the furtherest North & West that I've been... I'd have to look at a map to know for sure and don't have one handy.

I live in Juneau right now... and as the old joke goes:

Threebusinessmen were traveling on the same train and they got to talking. One was from Montana, one from Arizona and the third from Juneau, Alaska.

After talking to each other for awhile, one of the others turns to the guy from Montana and says, "I hear it gets pretty cold there in the winter."

"Yeah," the guy from Montana says, "but it's a dry cold, you don't notice it very much."

They continue talking for awhile, then one says to the guy from Arizona, "I hear it gets pretty hot there."

"Yes," says the guy from Arizona, "but it's a dry heat, you don't notice it very much."

Finally, the other two turn to the guy from Juneau, and say, "I hear it rains a lot there."

"Yes," the guy from Juneau says, "but it's a dry rain, you don't notice it very much."
