Thread: Reasons to Stay a CH

Why stay a CH? For the love of the profession and having pets.

Yes, it's nice to have pets with good stats and to be able to hold your own in battle, but any CH that relies on their pets solely for combat is going to be disappointed. As a Master Rifleman and MCH I've found that I can kill most things up to my level (80) as long as they're not elite. My highest pet is a CL 68 blood-frenzied boar wolf and he does just fine for most situations. It's when you go up against high-end content that you run into the problems. If you're going to be an MCH that relies on pets for combat you should pick a companion profession that allows you to complement your pets as they are now. I think rifleman does nicely.

If all you think of pets as is combat meat shields then you'll probably quit the profession out of boredom. I like to think of my pets as a part of my character. We bond. Leaving my pets behind would be like leaving family behind. If you look at it in that respect and you enjoy the roleplaying aspects of CH then you will stay because there IS something to be enjoyed here, despite the current state of CH post-CU.

Am I disappointed in the CU? In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. The way they're jogging around creature levels shows they're still trying to balance everything out. They said they would be balancing after the CU went live, so I think what we're seeing is growing pains of the CU. Once they have everything fleshed out I think we'll come out on top. Just have to wait and see what happens.

SWG is like a big hill, you spend ages going up it and then find you cannot even go over the top

Well I havent played too much with the new CU, but decided after being a CH for a long time on another character that I would respec my main back to CH. Mostly because I refound one aspect of the game I truly did enjoy, taming creatures. I have always liked playing solo, sitting in camps, taming and training creatures, and looking for all the rare and unusual animals to tame. I realize for a lot of old MCH's that they have "been there, done that" but I am pretty far from taming everything I want to tame. I was getting really nice XP last night just for taming and training wrixes last night, about 6k per (taming and training 5 commands). Using my baby wrix in combat in a group, not as tank, I was getting 10k+ xp per MOB and my pets were doing fine (I got over 400k xp last night). I am guessingthis CH xp is probably part of the bonus week, but either way it is a lot of fun. Since I kept MCM I was only able to respec to a couple of boxes in CH, but I am having fun. For the times I want to play solo I will seek out those creatures I want to tame and in a group I hope I can lend some needed support. Some people are saying CH in PvP is good now, but I havent tried that yet. I guess for me CH was something I always loved.

I'm seeing a pattern emerge amoung those who are upset about the CU and CH.

There seems to be 2 different types of CH: one who depends on pets to tank for them, and one who plays a CH because he genuinley enjoys the prof.

I have been a CH for nearly 2 years and will never give it up. I have tamed everything tamable, not to find the strongest most reliable pet, but because it is fun! I've even given away or sold some of my more powerfull pets so I could get a greater variety.

I have them withme even if I don't need them. I just like hunting with them. My toon is just like that. This is the one prof that has not become boring for me since I started playing.

Lets face it, if you are being a CH just so you can have fodder to use when you are hunting, you will be dissappointed in the CU. Try RP'ing it, you'll love it!

You can't do both? RP and be effective in combat? I enjoy CH because of the rp aspect, absolutely. I also used to enjoy CH because I was effective (much more than now anyway) in PvE. If CH is relegated to just an RP profession, or even primarily RP, then the profession has become severely limited.

You know I've seen a few people mention this... but I'm stumped. I've been in a group of eight (I think) and still added pets. Are we sure this is an issue?

I guess I'll have to test it tonight and see.
