Thread: Hey SOE, what do these specials really do? Where is the REAL info for this game?

If your refering to the fact that they should release info on what all the special attacks do and such.... they never have with anything else, and why should they. Its fun to find things for yourself, and if you don't like that then there are already posts here on the CH board that give great info.
I'd agree with this sentiment completely if I hadn't lived through the consequences of no info in another profession. See, they completely revamped Bio-E nearly two years ago. They told us nothing as to how that new system worked. We were left to figure it out on our own. We were even told that the beauty of the system was in the discovery.
Well that's great and all but how do we know if a newsystem is working if we have no information as to how the system is supposed to work? Not long after the BE patch went live some of us more industrious pet crafters started coming out with monstrocities that blew away anything in the wild. After a time these techniques were perfected. Enter the age of the uber pets. Was the system working? Again, it was the BE's that asked the question first. What did we receive as an answer? Silence.
How do you report bugs in a new system if you have no idea how that system is designed to work?
Let me get this straight; you think the first post in this thread was a legimate, rational post, designed to foster intelligent discussion among members of the CH community???
That post, amongmany others on these forums, had one purpose, to provoke an emotional response. It worked. The fact that you or he doesn't like the one it provoked, well that goes with the territory.
Iread and post in these forums to gain and share information about the game and profession. I don't like having to slog through post after post from a few dedicated trolls trying to hijack as many threads as they can and turn them into muck. I will do what I think I can, when I think I can, to try and lessen that.
That is my clear opinion. Adult or not? I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

I am sick and tired of players who don't want to find any mystery in a game. I am overjoyed that they are introducing something new to the game that is undocumented.

Does no one enjoy the concept of *EXPLORING* a game anymore?

I do.

The problem with SWG exploring is when you find something, you never can tell if it's a "undocumented software feature", a "bug", or "working as intended"! If it's a bug, you never know if it's gonna be fixed in a reasonable amount of time in which case you ignore it, or if the bug is gonna be around forever in which case the player community must "explore" work-arounds! If the exploring is left up to the players, it would at least be nice to get a answer when something is found like is this something a bug or a new feature. Exploring to find things is fine, it's just the trying to figure out what it is you have found that's a bi*ch!

I don't think they have realized that any game that encourages players to endlessly grind the same mobs again and again because there is a clear advantage to doing so, is a game that is "boring".
Aerontako_Shretalon wrote:It's just my personal view on the subject, but I like that it is so difficult. I believe this 'optional' grinding is what adds to the difficulty of truely calling yourself a 'master'.
The problem is that the grinding is not hard, its just boring and endless. Hard implies a challenge, there is nothing difficult about slaughtering lizards on Dantooine. While of course I have the option to do many other things - say slaughtering lizards on Tatooine instead - or slaughtering something else somewhere else there is a certain pattern established here. Leaving the difficulties of PvP aside, where quite a bit of challenge can be presented by fighting against other players (where the AI is often better at least), there is nothing particularly difficult anywhere in the game that I have seen. Now, I admit there is a lot I haven't seen still, so perhaps I am wrong, but most of this game seems designed to make it take a long time but thats about it. The potential is massive, but the execution is lacking somewhat.
Its like people saying its hard to become a Jedi. I see no evidence to support that so far. It merely takes a long time, but its not hard unless you include bearing up under extreme boredom as the chief challenge in creating your Jedi character - and thats not "hard", thats poor game design.
Now, SWG has a lot of things it does very well, albeit often buggily. The player driven economy and the crafting system are great examples to point to. The character design system is immensely flexible, the combat system is so-so and could benefit from studying the one used in City of Heroes but its at least vaguely functional. The actual in game play is my main beef. So far its keeping my interest but I am not sure I will stick with it because of the massive repetitive/boredom factor involved. They need more varied and challenging gameplay - and I admit I am at fault to some degree because I do not seek out the challenging gameplay that there is enough. I could be off trying to solo Krayts at CL36 I know
