Oh yeah...forgot to mention my MPistoleer / MCH days. HEH....um....stay away from this combo. Although I love pistoleer due to the more star warsy feel, they are a gimped class right now. Most of the specials don't work and the damage per second sux when compared to melee or rifles.
If you wanna do pistols, you might look at BH like Galacium suggested but also Smuggler. The dirty fighting line is very powerful. Low Blow is a ranged knockdown that very rarely misses and Last Ditch is a very tight special. I actually picked up LB and was really surprised by how much more effective I was.

Master Fencer
Novice Swordsman
4-3-3-2 Handler
2-0-0-0 Medic
I don't have any ranged skills. Mostly my fencer skills (COB and buffed, of course) )keep me alive like when surrounded by 7 or 8 MOBs. If I have to, I fall back on swordsman and use a power hammer if there is high kinetic and stun resistance or medium armored MOBs. Otherwise, I'll still use my 1H weapons against light armor since even then I do more damage with a gadderfi than with the hammer, and I hit faster. The only thing that sucks is getting jumped by clan sister elders with 100% resist everything except energy. Or Dark Jedi. Then it is just plain time to run scared like a little girl.
The pet, I keep just beyond melee range and call it in at the last moment to help finish off a MOB. Then tell it to stay, and move out of melee range again until the next MOB is about to drop.

Master TKA and working towards regaining Master CH (just started reworking it last night).
While ranged professions do seem to compliment CH more than TKA, I'm going to stick with this template. Creature Handling just isn't powerful enough for me. So I'll rely on my TKA for most of my power, and have CH along for the ride for a little extra oomph and most of all the fun of the profession.

Rifleman 2/0/1/1 (on my way to master)
CH 2/0/0/2 (on my way to master)
medic 1/0/0/2
master scout
ranger 1/0/3/0
artisan 4/0/0/0
marksman 4/0/04
i'm going to have to drop artisan completely and probably drop some other stuff in order to master CH and rifles.
but ilike the CH/riflesscout/ranger combo
the mask scent that you get from scout and the cammo from ranger helps out a lot if your cruising around a planet hunting for babies. in some cases i have been able totame and train acouple of babies, whilst walking amongst the larger more deadly parents.
a good example of this is, just yesterday i found a dalyrake lair on talus, i got 54 scout xp from each one within 55m thnx to my mask scent, when i saw the baby i just knew i had to have it so i went to tame it and pulled it off without any aggro from any of the 5 bigger ones lurking around.
ofcourse i then used my ronto to tank the dalyrakes for me while i sat back and blasted them so that i could harvest the meat for a later sale.
