Animal lover here in real life. I worked at a Vet clinic for a few years, and still volunteer at three of them every saturday. I am also a contact for Jack Russel Rescue. I have two jack Russels, and they are my lil boys (single male ehre, no kids cept the mutts).
While all my guilds and friends in-game are busy attaining their lightsabres, I am content to keep my MCH title. I love romaing around on my mounts, taming rares, and just generally hanging out in-game with my pets. Some nites I vanish into the wilds of some planet with my Crimson cats or Sludge pantehrs and just spend the entire nite giving them a workout, practicing stragies to make them more effecient in combat, and trying new pet combinations. In short, CH is what makes this game tolerable in the face of 200 12 years olds running aorund with lightsabres calling everyone who wont duel them a n00b.

I get the gut feeling the CH left are animal people in real life. Real life game hunters possibly. And the last portion are those who play for the defensive value of a pet as a tank.
The reason I ask is this to me helps define some of the central issues for CH. Namely our role in game play. In no game system I personally can think of is the pet supposed to be a main tank in any group situation. Solo the pet does tank.
The question helps future consideration of balance for CH. If the pet is merely for tank purposes we could ask that pets have certain limitations in consideration for balance. High armor pets that have little damage output. High damage output less armor. Medium armor, hp and damage acrossed the board.

Animal person here. Lets see...had tons of various pets growing up (birds flying in my room, tame parrots, insects, fish, toads, you name it), worked as a vet assistant for a while, love fishing, today I have BEing as my occupation, but of course work doing research on fish.
I picked CH because I like animals, period. But I also like to be on my own and being a CH lets me do that (even though a lot of profs can go solo with buffs, etc.)
Pretty much whats keeping me in the game now is rare hunting - the thrill of the hunt and the sense of accomplishment when you finally get that critter you been hunting for months - priceless! Fortunately with a full time job, wife and three young kids I don't have much time to play these days, so it will take some time before I get those last rares
Man, I wish they would increase the number of rares in the game and increase pet storage - that would keep me in the game forever...at least until I find something better
When I check out the new online games that's coming out these yearsI always look for a CH class. A class that would allow me to go around and tame creatures, use them in combat, search for rares and make a collection of trophies. So far I've not found what I'm looking for...

without the ability to use the pets or at least have them follow me I would not. If all I wanted to do was collect stuff and display it I would be outside with a metal detector looking for rare coins.
But you would have to change alot more than just the skill points. Already the profession is not at all what it is sold as.
At 4000 you are a Creature Tamer! Of course you can be 0444 and still tame just about anything(as long as you have a +25 outfit from Meuw's Pet Emporium!)
At 0400 you are a Creature Trainer! actually this one makes the most sense seeing how it has at least one command per tier. But still it is not like you cannot train a pet without it.
At 0040 you are a Creature Empath! OOOoooooOooOOO! suddenly we are mystics? Someone please tellme why we must be some sort of magical beings to teach a gurreck to stand on its head?
At 0004 you are a Pack Master! So now I am the master of a pack of animals.....of course I have never heard of a pack being 2 creatures before....hmmm....but I guess Mount Master would get too many giggles.

meuw..would you like a little cheese with that whine?

slamming the names of the trees is going a little too far..first time i've seen someone scrape the bottom of the things to complain about barrel so thouroughly..lol
see how things get id you don't have fun playing the game?../point meuw
it's going to be a new game in a few weeks, might be great, might be terrible..just enjoy it while you can. i'm not picking on you meuw, i enjoy your posts, but it seems like you are burning out when the names of the trees evoke such hostility..remember it's only a game..lol

First time I accidently tried getting on a mount while indoors and recieved:
"You can not mount anything at this time."
I just laughed and thought to myself.... ain't that the truth. ![]()

My love of the Creature Handler prof I think mostly comes from my experiences as a Tamer in Ultima Online. I'll never forget the first time I tamed a Nightmare or a Dragon or the almighty White Wyrm. Riding into town atop your Ki-Rin as your Dragon walked behind you was so damned badass. Good times.

lol Meuw it makes almost as much sense as BE's having a Breeder title. They breed nothing. They Pyrex everything.
LOL. I amuse myself.
Anyway some good points about being able to trail the pet behind you. Most pet classes seem out of balance. Given the weakness of pets today, I would've settled for being aable to just release pets again. Creating mayhem in cities would be fun. Leaving a Rancor to eat someone in the vast number of Ghost Cities would be hilarious.
Crafter: I think I will go stock my vendor in the PA Hall.
Crafter (5 minutes later): Will someone come help me kill the 50 Rancors in the PA Hall? I cannot get to my vendors.
Would be funny, at least to me.
