Thread: Read the FAQ, The Issues, and the first 5 pages before asking stupid questions
1) Ignore the newbie threads. Just dont view them or reply to them.
2) Post and refer them politely to where they can get the information.
Pretty simple.

True but then they won't learn how to use the forums.
As a Professor I never just spoon feed my students the answer, I make them reason it out or look it up if they cannot reason it.

I am not "TOO" veteran to help anyone. I am pointing out PROPER forums ettiquette IS TO READ BEFORE YOU ASK.
That is how you learn to use the forums. Anyone defending otherwise is defending plain old fashioned laziness.

So not reading the 50+ pages of FAQs and stickies is plain old laziness? How about not being able to scroll past a question?
I agree with the Professor, to an extent. If this wasn't a game forum, which is supposed to have a friendly atmosphere, I'd be all for teaching the newbies a lesson. I to have a respectable profession, it also involves training. I suspect the difference with between being a professor and training people in the work place is that you learn about what is relevant. It's good to help develop people the ability to teach themselves, but sometimes it appropriate just to give them the answer. It also depends upon who you are training. For example if you are training management, that need to know how to find the anwers quickly with no need to fully understand how the data got there. On the other hand, somebody who actually does the work needs to know how to get the data in, and doesn't always care how it gets used. The relevance? If the newbie posting the 'stupid' question has restrictive time for gaming or surfing, do they want to spend it reading old threads? How about the person sho has just got the game? In there place wouldn't you prefer to be playing game, and think maybe a quick question would help? Or someone who has downloaded the game and it might mot be worth the effort to go through all the previous posts. I'm in no way saying that all the people posting 'stupid questions' and breaking 'proper ettiquette' think into these groups, and indeed some of them may be lazy, but just highlighting that you shouldn't make such sweeping comments.
I'm also disappointed the Professor seems to have forgotten the phrase "there are no stupid questions.....".
