It isn't really my thing either, but some people are motivated by it. I recall some of the discussion for the new system on the In Development forum a few weeks ago suggesting that the rating system would discourage inappropriate posts. I disagreed saying that many people don't care about ratings to begin with and I suspect some people would wear a 1 star rating as a badge of honor similar to some of the awful names we see people use for their characters in game.

I guess in the end, it doesn't really matter. If you're into it, you'll love the new system. If you don't really care, well, you may have to buy some new sunglasses to shade your eyes from all the new colors on the screen.

I am only marginally interested in the ratings (more from curiosity sake), but what I don't get is all the different titles. If it is geared towards rewarding good posters and punishing bad ones, why such a variety of confusing titles? Without looking it up, I don't really see what title is "better".
