Thread: Rifleman?
Starting out as a Scout I used the Rifle to get myself all those dead critters to skin for the exp. Head shot and the Sharp Bone Spur/Noisemaker traps are lethal against certain animals (Durni's and Paralopes on Corellia for example). When I got close to Creature HandlerI decided to switch over to Pistol because of the whole issue of not scattering the damage over 2 HAM pools.
Now with a Scout Blaster andtwo Swamp Gurrcats (1100 hp 120-130 damage) fighting with me I can take down a 4000 hp Humbaba. Yes it takes a lot of traps and healing afterwards but it can be done
.
One thing you might want to consider is raising your Weapons Support skill to Level 3 to get Warningshot. This has the effect of a "fear" spell in a fantasy game and will send the critter running away while your pets attack it from behind (using the Stink Bomb trap will lower the creature's resistance to this effect and a P. Dart will slow it down so it doesn't out run you).
I guess what I'm saying is don't rely too heavily just on your weapon. Learn the special attacks and traps and use them to your advantage.

doing the math i should be able to get:
Master CH,Master Scout,Master Ranger, and Expert Rifle Skill and Expert Pistol Skill and be left wtih 14 points. From there i can either go up rifles and get to Snipeing II and be left with 3 skill points OR go up to Expert Pistol Tactics and be left wth 0 points.
Personally im thinking im gonna go up to Snipeing III since i cant really stick the 3 points anywhere except carbine I or ranged support I, and support the dmg that traps do to the mind pool with headshots.

Right now rifleman is the strongest ranged profession, but in a way we are that because we are broken.
We are the fastest ranged profession AND also the ranged profession that delivers most damage.
That + the fact that we can hit mind makes us pretty good. I really think this will change in CU though.
Actually we are not broken... It is more correct to say the other professions are broken. The Curb will change things but not necessarily in the manner people are expecting.
as to the orginal question - if you wish to be a BH then BH/CARB or BH/Pistoleer is pretty awe inspiring. If you don't want BH then Rifleman is pretty much the way to go currently.

We aren't broken. As Ack said, the problem is that the others are broken. Ask Pistoleers how many of their specials work or work as described. Then compare it to ours. We have one that is broken.
Nor are we the fastest profession. We have a higher base mods but we also have a much higher base speed. Don't forget that both Pistoleer and Carbines can speed cap. Not as easily as us maybe, but it can be done. Which means everyone has the same speed.

Broken might havebeen the wrong word, dont get me wrong I love rifleman and nothing will get me to drop it but I say that something is wrong when we are just as fast as pistoleer but we deliver much more damage, even if the pistoleer specials worked we would probably outdamage them as it is now.
So broken, no
Unbalanced, yes.

There is little to no difference in firing speeds between rifles, carbines, and pistols. Pulling the trigger is pulling the trigger.
Not everything is about damage. Though in the current system that is the main requirement. However there are many other factors such as states and defenses.
The system should be a rock/paper/scissors approach. If it's only about damage then there will be no real difference between the professions.
Yes it is unbalanced. But that is because other professions are badly broken. You can't truly compare the two. If you look at two cars and try to determine which is faster. The Ferrari or that beat up Olds you'd say the Ferrari. But what if the Ferrari didn't run?

pistoleer may have a lower DPS, but they get all those nice defenses in trickshot line.... You can be a speedcapped rifleman and have a legendary 4000 max damage T21, but that don;t meen nothing if you are dizzy/kd withen 2 seconds.

Kd can easily be a minimized threat with the proper food. I am never knocked down in PvP these days and even when I am, my "anti-kd" macro gets me back on myfeetsquite quickly (no I am not some uber leet pvp player, I get killed alot but not by kd+dizzy anymore)my biggest problem is jedi (and my own stupid misstakes).
I'm just saying that with the system now everything boils down to DPS and rifleman wins that race easily against the other ranged profs.
There need to be other important factors as well in the new system, something that cant be ignored with the help of food/spice/buffs ect ect, otherwise there wont be much point of being the other ranged profs and I really, really want to see all the combat profs on the PvP arena after the CU.
fact is you can only use so much food and if you can use your stomach for something else it is better used that way.
Also Carbineer is a great pvp profession if you pvp in groups - it has a role and fulfills it fairly well, BH Pistoleer is uber popular because of the multiple state attacks and the ability to target multiple pools. Basically all professions can be used in pvp - but the reasons some many people pvp with riflemanare:
- Uber armor
- Uber Buffs
- hard to heal targeted pool
without those factors rifleman isno overbalanced profession - if you are a old rifleman you wouldknow that the advent of the uber buff and armor are what made us strong - not our profession in and of itself. With lower buffs and armor BH's used to be the king of the battlefield, Carbineers could slaughter masses... Pistoleers could at least kill a tk 50% of the time. Fix the other professions and remove buffs and lower armor...
