Self-Sacrifice is a triggered attack, in order for it to take effect you have to be close to the pet and give it a command to use it. I haven't tried it yet myself, so I don't know how long it works or whatnot, but I do know its triggered.

I've triggered it while standing on top of my pet with no results.
That is exactly why I said 'In theory'. It hasnt been proven how often this ability works or how much damage is transferred. The ability may even be broken.
However, a nonCH pet is never going to be able to tank for a player. If this ability works as advertised, it would directly enhance a players ability to tank.

With my L3 Self-Sacrifice pet ( grinding it to learn the ability ), I noticed it took damage -- and more often -- than any other pet I've worked with except the L3 Aggression pet ( who took aggro and held it consistently ).
I presume that means that I was taking fewer damage, but I didn't have any empirical evidence to prove so. I do know that I outdamage any single pet handily, so the only pet I have that ever drew aggro without a terrific foul-up was the Aggression pet.
I just know as I've ground out probably a dozen or so L60-L69 pets the only ones to take damage more than extremely rarely were the Aggression one ( very explainable ) and the Self-Sacrifice pet.

Hi all MCH on the Chilastra Server here new to the forums but not the game. I can confirm their does appear to be a market for Non CH pets as i am still inundated with people asking to buy mounts. Having tamed 3 CL10 carrions shortly after Publish 21, all with specials, i spent a littletime grinding these to learn them. As these are perfectly good mounts I kept grindingthem to make them grow, which didnt take as long as you would think, especially using all 3 in combat at once. Anyway by this time i unlocked 4 ability slots so thought why not through in specials as well. I trained different L1 specials to them, 5 specials total including their innates. They all went for 100k+ with the highest bidder paying me 250k. Considering i used to just give mounts away, it is feasible you could make money through CH. The only problem is the datapad space really, if SOE could provide "stables" or something along those lines which i've seen mentionedin the forums before then you could really turn this in to a good business venture. For now i try and keep 2 CL10 mountable pets to grind when i'm not doing my own or whilst i help Noobie CH. I've since sold a few more and wont charge less than 100k unless to a Guild Member or good friend. So many players also have varacytl's and bolataurs now you should also consider the potential for borrowing these for a while whilst u grind pet xp to put specials on them. Again subject to space in datapad and actual time you can dedicate outside your own pet grinding. I am currently doing this for a friend and managed to unlock for 3 slots thus far, pretty sure as with the carrions only 4 ability slots available.
