Thread: I just realised WHY the ch combat profession is not as powerful as other combat professions.
No I am right CH is a combat profession not a support classLike CM but where as CM is balanced as u say they can actually kill things and expecially in PvP, CMis deadly, CH is unbalanced as u say because its not a support class but isn't as effective in dealing dmg as it should be either in PvP or PvE

You're wrong. CH IS a support class. Much the same way Combat Medic is a support class. Both of our classes are capable of dealing damage on their own. But i think its obvious that neither us, nor them do exceptionally well without a real combat class as part of their template.
actually i should ammend that... CM and CH are "combat support classes." Whereas entertainers and medics are purely support classes. But the thing is, both CM and CH spend more skill points to master than most combat classes. While CM is balanced, CH is clearly not. CMs have their place in the GCW and other areas of the game. CHs are needed and wanted nowhere. We have no calling, and no purpose, atleast as far as the devs are concerned. After publish 5 we've hadno pet market, we've lost most of our combat effectiveness, and we're just as useless in theGCW now as we were then. Personally.. to hell with GCW. What does bother me is the fact that i have no pet market, and that i don't have a needed position in PvE hunting. What kind of support class has nothing to support? I mean... BE suposedly supports CH, but i find that hard for a support class to support a support class which is not needed. I don't even want to get into the BE issue, i made myself perfectly clear about my individual disgustand that of my fellow MCHs.

"Creature Handlers are a combat profession" - Raph Koster, beta three boards
Haven't we established that Raph was and continues to be significantly insulated from the *actual* game we're playing? Nothing he says or has said can be relied on to be anything but utter crap. One day it's meant to appease us, the next it's meant to explain that he didn't really mean to appease us and so on and so forth.
He's the one who told us the FSCS would be organic and everyone would have an equal chance of unlocking it while playing normally? All along he'd been pulling stuff out of his ass and laying it down as law without checking the facts.
CH was changed to a support role because it outshined it's undeveloped companions.
CH has never been a good use of points as a support role. The devs can't seem to figure out how to balance it.
Solution: let the CH back in as a combat class. Easier to balance and giving the CH a whistle or something to direct pets in leiu of a blaster is an easy fix.
Ryyger,
I want a chair, a whip and a pistol, then i can direct my pets, because some days it feels like you need all three just to keep things from unraveling around you.
And YES we are supposed to be a combat profession. All of you who have bought into this combat support crap have never experienced what we could do before. You know what, if you tell someone a lie over and over and over pretty soon they begin to believe that lie, and soon after the lie becomes reality, but in truth it is still a LIE!
As stated earlier because pets could be caught tamed, trained and turned loose earlier and faster than weaponsmiths and armorsmiths could learn their trade and get decent weapons and armor and med buffs we were pretty impressive. I would bet my bottom dollar that now with a TKM or Rifleman buffed, armored and with a modified T21 he could kick ass or hold his own against any of our old pets.
I've been playing since July... Been a MCH since september. I know how powerful CH was before. They made the changes that they needed to make prior to pub5. But the changes made in pub5 were uncalled for and ludicrous. They could've rasied CLs and made the XP harder and most of us would've been happy. The changes toBE were needed, but not at thecomplete and utter expensiveof the CH pet market. But when youruin our pet market and make it so that the only viable pets we can have are made by a crafter then wth. I'm glad some BE's are slashing pirces cuase god only knows how a CH is suppost to make a credit. I'm glad i was able to pocket nearly 5 million pre pub5. But now that fortune is down to 1.3 million and sooner or later i'm gonna be dirt poor. But its not like i'd ever touch a BE petother then to train it for some nub fresh off the boat. Just a moralistic stance i wish many other old school MCHs would take.
Just for the hell of it... I dropped about 200k on a decent set of Comp armor... I got buffed, took a shot of vasarian brandy and tanked graul lairs better than any pet i've had short of pre-nerf maulers. Its funny to see a creature only able to do 20 dmg to you which you regen in1-2 seconds anyway. If Pikeman had the pure damage output that TKM has, i'd be tanking enraged rancor lairs without a pet.
And on a final note, CH is a support class and to a point always has been. CH by itself never did well. In the early days it was CH with some other combat prof that owned any other combat class. But doing that is like going MBH with the amount of skill points it requires. And hell, at this point MBH is a better use of those skill points. I don't care about dmg output, i don't care if my pets did 5 dmg aslong as they can take the kind of beatings they used to. And yea, i was lucky enough to a tame my webmaster before they were made untamable, medium AR was so nice... Then pub5 comes around and screws them down to light AR... I should've sold it to all those people who were offering me a few million for it before that bloody cursed patch.

Wait.
I'm dropping most of my CH. I'll adapt better than many exMCHs because for me CH was always an accessory combat class, but for those who used it as a combat class, all the recent (and not-so-recent--you guys are really patient!) changes must have been rough.
I've been a CH ever since I got those nunas skinned after release, but I've noticed my pets stay in the datapad of late. Even early in the game, I always ended up tanking more than my pets as I was a melee fighter, but there are alot of players who relied on their pets to tank. I never really considered my pets to be THE tanks--they just helped with controling extra enemies. Now with all the new buffs and armors, just about any profession can tank as well as a pet. My pets aren't even needed for crowd control purposes because any ol' newbie in a set of composite can do it as well.
So I guess I don't need the master CH pets. I can get the same use from a level 20ish pet because I now realize I've just been using my pets for *gasp* roleplay, and I'm not even really that much of a roleplayer!
I hope CH gets a little work done to make it more useful, but I'm not dropping it because it was less useful. I'm just trying out something different and needed the skill points. Since I'll still be able to have some pets, and there's no big advantage (to me) from having high level pets, it'll be like getting all those skill points back for free! Kinda.
