The short answer is that for high-level pets, you will learn the ability faster by macro-killing yard trash. Low level pets, under CL25 or so, you can probably learn the ability faster in a grind group.

The macro posted in the other thread is:

/ui action cycleTargetOutwards;
/tellpet attack;
/pause 6; (vary according to range of mobs and pet having ranged attack or not)
/macro pet;

Where you name the macro "pet". In any case, make the last line "/macro 'name'" for whatever you name the macro.

I've been finding a level 3 or 2 special or two on a tame every day, and then turning on the macro and going to bed. When I wake up, I know the skill. Almost makes you feel guilty. Almost.

Meatlumps etc. attack you on sight still? If they con gray (which they should, lol) they are supposed to have no aggro chance. The exception would be faction troops. Plus, to actually get the spawn to move along quickly on meatlumps etc., you would need a /loot macro going anyhow.

What specifically doesn't work Trapper? The "cycleTargetOutwards" bit is case sensative, so that could be a potential hangup. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you... It should work, lol.

All Level 1's (save pinning L1) done. I am looking for Aggression L2, Guarded Stance L2, Hunted Withdrawal L2, and Intimidating attack L2 (and I wonder too at Pinning L2). Level 3's are next. I managed one so far, Precision Strike L3.

Still taming Giant Anlger babys on Endor hoping for the alleged Pinning Attack L3, and wonder if the DEVS intended this one to be a unique pet skill only found on this critter and not teachable to others.This could be construed to veteran PVP'ers who combat Creature Handlers for kicks, to be wary of anyone calling forth the Giant Angler.

I mourn the babys released into the wilds who had specials I didn't need. I mourn the Pets I destroyed in my Datapad to make room for the new tames. I dread going to Danthomir. I need to find a Ranger.

Being pedantic I know, but the macro isn't being used to level up pets, but to learn an innate ability that pet has (generally speaking the pet is then 'released')

Don't know the count, still missing some L1's got a bunch of L2's and 3's.

Just an aside: when using the macro, it's taken over 600 kills min to learn anything, even L2's - so I'm still not sure that it's the quickest way. My personal opinion is that the chance is in fact based on the amount of xp the pet has gained, but since the check is at every kill, it appears that kills are the dominant feature.

Kinda like rolling lots and lots of six sided dice - you're bound to get a six on one of them. If however, you're using 12 sided dice, you'll need maybe 2-3 rolls to get a six (or better)

So far I have all the level 1's and 2's excluding Pinning of course. Got about 7 level 3's but haven't had much luck finding many more as yet, lack of space is also a problem as I keep finding rarer pets that I would prefer to keep.

Damn that 22 pet limit.

24 L1s, 19 L2s, 6 L3s. I have wasted way to much time trying to find the Self-Sac, Aggression, Intimidate L2 group....

And I have had several pets take 2000+ kills to learn the ability.

I am seriously doubting the frenzied rancor imtim L2 tale. I found a nest but couldnt get a baby to spawn no matter what so I tamed every graul variation in the area most of all ancient grauls that are the exact same level as the frenzieds. So where did everyone else get their intimidation L2.

What i got off the graul gang eyegouge staggering attack knockdown. That seems to be a rull cart and if you beleive in the grouping system then how can a frenzied have intimidation on it.

Well it works fine at first, targets a creature, tells my pet to attack then thats it lol I type /dump and it says 1 chain command has been dumped (or whatever) so the macro is looping but it just doesnt target another animal lol

You need /target self before you cycle outwards. Without that you would stop targetting once you reached max range.

Hmm, the /target self would help if you wanted to stay in one place, but I don't have it in my macro, and it works fine. Then again, I'm at the keyboard when I run it, and move about to make sure I "catch" everything in range. Without /target self it just causes me to run from one large grouping of worrts and rills to the next, which is okay with me since I'm there.

Trapper I'll mail you my macro when I get home tonight. Maybe you're missing the semi-colons at the end of the lines or you don't have the /macro <insert name of macro here> ; at the end of the macro to cause it to repeat the process again or something. It might just be a typo even Mine is working okay and if you're truly AFK, the /target self I could see might be helpful as well.

umm, how many hours did u ppl use to get all those specials?

Im taming everything i can find and im playin a tons of hours per day atm, but just found around 13 abilities yet, tho i still have to learn most of them as thru all the taming i have no time to grind the pets out..... during my afk time i run a macro to get the ability out of the pets, but it goes quiet slow....each of those pets has to do around 1000 - 2000 kills to teach me the ability, cant imagine how many hours Id have to play to get this while active playing in grind groups.

just got 2 level1 abilities yet ( just 1 learned) and 11 level 2, no level 3, tho I dont just tame on corellia or talus, mostly on dath and endor!

This is really sad that people feel reduced to running a macro to level up their higher pets. I'm not getting upset that people do it, it's just that we shouldn't have to... it should be fun to level them with us or we should get more incentive from *grouping* ..... like get substantially more training XP in a full group. *sigh* I don't know.... I just don't feel like using this method when the time comes. *goes back to her paper bag*
