Depending on what you plan to do as CH a MTK/MCH is a pretty good combo for hunting rare pets and taming. You are your own tank and can deal with just about anything ingame with armor/buffs that is not 100% kinetic resists. You also get the Meditation line that allows you to cure poison/disease and heal all of your own wounds. Most rare pets have some nasty specials like plague strike or poison. Nothing worse than getting hit by a Skreecher or Bull Rancor and having to try to find a doctor that heals poison/disease and cure wounds. You only have to go back to town for buffs or when the BF gets high. With buffs and composite armor, I routinely fight 16 Enraged/Bull Rancors at a time and win.

Personally, I'm starting to think that Master Pistoleer would be the way to go.

I'm going for Master CH and right now, I have Commando as well, with only a flamethrower specialization, and I'm not too sure about it anymore. Initially, I was going for pistoleer, but I thought "Flamethrowers are cool", and I decided to go with that.

Now, I've been using the flamethrower for a while, and I'm getting disappointed. Sure, the damage output is HIGH (often will I hit 1400-ish), but the speed ain't there. I'm sure I could cause more damage per minute with that FWG5 pistol. I already did the test, and with a 1.8 speed FWG5, I deal more damage (of the heat type too) than with the flamethrower (at 5.1 speed) in the same amount of time.

What's a good template you ask? Find what you're comfortable with. I like pistoleer because of one simple reason: I don't have very bad penalties when it,s time to heal the pets. I'm near, and it actually increase my to-hit ratio, whereas carbines are, well, sucky at best. I was 2/2/2/2 carbineer, and the damage was awful. Nothing like the speed of a pistol, and nothing like the damage of a rifle, so it was real bad. What I kill in a minute with a pistol used to take me 5 with a carbine.

So, as I was saying, it really depends what you want to do. If you want your pets to tank, I'd suggest pistoleer, since you don't have any penalties when it's time to heal the pets. If you want to tank, then melee (I'll leave that to someone else, since I don't melee). If you want to let the pet tank and not heal it, then rifles, IMHO (that would be good on high-end pets, really).

Personally, for me, what works best so far would be the MCH/MPistoleer combo. Doesn't eat as much skill points, and still gives you a good combat template, with good resists, while allowing you to heal without any trouble.

Of course, your actual mileage may vary. ^_^

I don't know, I think you had some bad carbines or something, cause between my EE3, my Laser and my DX carbines, I was hitting some good damage and quick kills. depending on resists.

Possible, but I still deal more damage now, as far as I'm concerned, with my FWG5 or Republic pistol than even with Nym's slugthrower... Which is a shame...

Especially since I have yet to come across a player-made slugthrower...

Ok this is what I use and I solo bull rancor lairs.

master ch

master rifleman

0/0/4/0 medic (for the stim c's)

4/0/4/4 scout

I go unbuffed and without armor. Sometimes I do get buffs so I can kill the ranors faster but not usually.

And if you don't have the force sensivity, I,'d suggest commando 3/0/4/0

You get some defense that way, and you'll proabably last 5-10 seconds more that way, if you're lucky. -_^
