Dyxon,

I agree with your summation. Here is the real problem, the whole forum system is toned. The Devs are largely responsible for this state of the forums. Everyone whines, cries or complains on these forums. Then it causes nerfs. I largely avoided this very thread until tonight. The very title suggests the nature of the forum. "I am an Elite profession and you are not" so "why do you even play CH". When in fact both of these questions are what all CH's ask themselves every day.

If anyone answered the original poster in a toned manner, it may be undeserved to him, but not without mitigating factors. The fact he chooses to use the words "I don't mean to offend anyone" suggests that he knew full and well coming into the question meant he could rock some boats. The carelessness is not what I am angry about myself. It is the manner in which he instantly dismisses Tycalibur for stating what each CH lives with. Each CH knows the history of these forums. The good posts, the anger, the anguish, the comraderie and finally the 100's of newbs that make a new post every day asking us what the best CH pet is when clearly CH's have no control over pets that falls to the BE. Maybe that should be stickied. You can sort the first ten pages and most likely find 5+ posts asking what the best pet is.

The real frustration lies in that we know we are the only ones willing to help ourselves at the moment. I have tried good posts and managed to get some responses a few times. The last thing we want to here from is a dabbler. It was part of the reason we were nerfed. It also intimates the future of CH is that of merely a Dabbled profession. The masters leave in droves. There IS NOTHING meaningful to master. I only keep it out of pride and determination that I will not let the Devs chase me away. While some Devs assure that this is not their position, it cannot be denied that any other class that was revamped received major bonuses as part of their revamp while CH lay dead in the water, with some specials (AOE) still not working and ranged not having the ability to toggle off. These were promised perks of the CH revamp. The only perk we received was a lesser status in PvP, a very dwindling role in PvE (unless you solo [CH's are rarely wanted in groups]) and no market of which to speak.

Now to sum up how I really feel: I am the first to tell it like it is. The original poster may have had every intention of asking the right question expecting a calmer tone in responses. I applaud him for asking the question. In fact, he did however point out he was uber. This illicited any anger posed toward him, whether imaginary or real. I do not care one iota if he is part of an uber elite class. I honestly believe that Ty's frustration was not aimed at the OP, instead it was simply that: another frustrated CH trying to do his best to help someone. Help them at least have the foreknowledge that the profession is broke and secondly that Ty could not recommend any sane person playing CH any longer than it took to grind for a holocron then drop it like sampled Class 7 Radioactives.

While I have some sympathy for new CH's and will endeavor to help them as much as possible they need the honesty that Ty provided. It is only with such clarity they can divine for themselves whether it is worth it or not. Was Ty toned? Possibly. Did he tell the truth? Yes. Did he direct it AT ninja? I really doubt it.

The most interesting point is finding the right creature for the right job. Until now, I have planned to horde gurrecks and rancors to and use them as soon as I could. I know realize that I should take a more specialized approach. Getting a few gurrecks, rancors, mantigrue screeches, etc. I need the right pet for the right job! This is the best advice and up and coming CH could receive

Well, I am not going to get into the dabbling argument. You should know that the high end pets that have specials, like the skreecher, can take you weeks if not months to find a baby. That is if you spend your time exclusively hunting for them. You could get lucky and find one in a week or you could kill hundreds of adults looking for a baby and never find one. All the while you will have them using that great AOE attack on you. Any wild pet that has specials that can not be provided by a BE has an extremely rare spawn rate. You should also be aware that getting your pet to use the few specials that work is flakey at best and requires a few work arounds spamming macros.

It has been my experience that rancors and grauls are not the best pets to have. They are too large and there is a bug with them getting to "optimal" range that causes them to run all over the place. Stick with the cats. Also, do not get too dependent on those pets. There is another bug that causes them to poof back into your data pad at the worst time, usually in combat. This leaves you on your own. You have to break off the combat and then wait 15 seconds after you call your pet for it to appear. You also have to wait another 30 seconds after you finish the lair before you can store your pet and get on your bike to go to the next lair. You see, pets can not keep up with most bikes. You can use this time to heal your pet, buy pet stims by the crate. You see, your pet will be down to about half HAM and the regen rate is so slow that he would not regen to full for at least a day on his own. That is if you leave him out. If you store your pet he may regen in a day or he may not regen at all, another bug.

If you really want to understand take up the profession. You will be surprised at just how many skill boxes you have to get before you can even think about being useful. You might also be surprised to learn you usually get more combat experience per kill than you get CH exp. Read the sticky posts, plan on using BE pets, and realize that you will be more than half way up the skill boxes before you see any advantage over a non-ch with good BE pets. The Kinetic resists is the most important for PVE and it is capped at 60. I have seen non-ch pets with this amount. You do get light armor, which helps, with higher level pets.

I really want to thank all of your for your replies

I refuse to let myself be dragged down in some of the negativity on these boards and especially in this post. I came to ask a question of a knowledgable community, and that is what I will finish doing. The negativity of a few will not deter me from understanding more about being a Creature Handler. I will respond to the positive things that I have learned

Now, it seems the initial question has been answered:

Does an elite combat profession plus creature handler equal more damage per second? The answer is yes.

Yet, there are two reservations:

1. PvP. From what I gather, pets are not making any difference in this arena at all. I'm really sorry to hear that, and it is a problem that should be addressed.

2. High-End PvE. With high armor and large kinetic resists, this will be a problem. It can be somewhat mitigated by pet specialization (yet again, great advice) in the way of specials. Yet, I'm not sure if specialization will solve this.

There are still some things to be positive about, despite the two reservations. It seems that I will be able to hunt the next to high-end PvE targest and do so quite well. This opens up a whole lot ofpossibilities of things that I can fight well as a Creature Handler.

I'd like to thank all of you that helped me through this question

Wow, we did a good job turning this thread into a whomp fest, huh?

Let's sum it up. Ty's post was really pretty matter of fact, with the exception of the last paragraph. Ninja's response to that was over the edge in relation to what Ty said.

The best answer, IMO, is the one that GnomeAd gave.

Far as pets go, it ain't rocket science to figure out which pets work best against which targets. I've found that trial and error works better than stats. Because that whole system is screwed up too The interaction between pets and targets isn't very clear. Play around and have fun getting there.

Ninja,

The statements made here to you pretty much sum up everything that I could ever say. As for Ty's respose I
find nothing rude or ranting about it. With your title alone you had to know you were messing around in
a hornets nest. If your skin is that thin you have no business messing around with them!

That's like me walking up to someone on the street and saying: I don't mean to offend you but why do you smell
like hot salty garbage?

Just because you say: I don't mean to offend, it doesn't mean you will not offend,
it means in all probability that you know you are going to offend someone!
