Great info put together here. Especially the inclusion of the Ysalamiri, great story behind those little tree-huggers. Keep it up fellow CH's, if we can't have our profession back we can at least enjoy some good reading.

Ayami - MCH since september '03 and until NGE.
The removal of CH and the NGE in general is the dumbest thing a company has ever done. period.
CH deserves to stay, and SOE deserves to be *#&$^#*@ until they are #*&$& and then *#&$ some more!
LONG LIVE THE CREATURE HANDLERS!!!

- I support a rollback and keeping & balancing the old combat system.
...and making SWG a better place to be.

Like I told someone who wondered why I was so upset about CH being taken from the game (( yes another one of those CH isn't Star Wars ))

Regardless of if you think CH is Star Warsy or not - It was in the game since launch - it was one of the main professions to be advertised. Alot of people enjoyed CH - no matter what the DEV's did to it. Jedi was not a profession since launch - now anyone can be one. A big part of alot of peoples game is being taken away from them and yet they are supposed to be happy about it.

If you are a huge fan of a certain type of music - but were told you were no longer able to listen to your favorite bands - would you be happy.... No

I was one of those CH's since the beginning on Iarian - but no matter what they did to it - I always managed to add it to one of my characters... Now two professions are being taken from one of my characters. All I know is - I'll give this new game a try for my friends who play - but I'm only giving it to the start of the new year...

Iarian - Master Creature Handler at Heart, Galladriel - Master Bio Engineer turned Medic, A'zula - Bounty Hunter
Sayurri - Master Dancer - ID, Yue - Master Structures Trader, Nai'rai - Master Domestics Trader
EQ 2 - Emelya - Monk, Katara - Fury, Yuea - Illusionist, Iarian - Paladin, Sayuki - Ranger, Azula - Necromancer

I can only imagine how boring taming and mounting will become over time.

Well, taming and mount-training do not a profession make. Obviously, if the devs decide they want players to be the means by whichmounts are provided toplayers, they'll need to retain a viable Creature Handler profession in order to have people who would be interested in having a character capable of doing so. But the parameters of what makes a "viable" Creature Handler career are fod for thought for a far-distant, uncertain future. Right now, we need to establish the sheer ubiquity of these exotic domesticated beasts, in order to defend the absolute "star warsiness" of our profession.

Honestly, I really thought a bright future lay ahead for Creature Handlers. Episode 3 really seemed to take the exotic creature dimension to incredible heights. Boga the varactyl was a heroic figure in her own right, and it seemed almost every sequence had some cameo appearance by yet another fantastic creature, from the Falucia Ground Beetles to the Can-Cells that transported Yoda to safety. I was beginning to think the popularity of Creature Handler in this game had actually inspired George Lucas to give these beasts an even more prominent place in his movie.

Anyway, this is one piece in the puzzle. I'd encourage you (or someone...) to build the point from the angle of Jacen Solo, and the exploits of Malakili, and the Witches of Dathomir in the variousStar Wars novels. I've only read snippets here and there of a few of the books, sothat task isbeyond me. But it sounds likea vital next step.

Another CH from the EU:

Talon Karrde tamed 2 Vronskr for use as pets. In later series (or was it the first),
theres talk about aplan to tame and sell vronskr as guard animals IIRC.

This is a great thread.

We should also include the parallel thought of iconic CHs. The pets are there, but we can see a few CHs as well.

The obvious one is the Rancor handler, Malakili.

But let me also suggest that Luke had some CH in him too.He was a farm boy on a backward planet. Sure they used droids, but I bet they used creatures as well. When Luke's Taun-Taun is frightened by the approach of the Wampa,Luke empathizes with his mount.

If I had my choice, I'd still be a Creature Handler.
Instead, all I got was this lousy padawan robe.

I still think that the Creature Handler that took care of the Rancor (The one who cries when Luke kills it) was a hell of a lot more "Iconic" then 21-B the droid.
