But this concept assumes that a profession that is not mastered is virtually worthless... you could not decide to be fencer and spread the rest of your points over Pikesmaid/TK/Swordsmaid instead of picking two of them. (Note that this would make sense since some branches in these profs support you in fighting one handed while others do not - and one can only use one weapon at a time)

To the flourishes: My I wish there was a way to get those data...I don't know about Maya, but I'd work myself into it for this.
Me too, lol. I think the bigger deal is getting permission to take the time to do this from the producer. Jake always used to say to me "If it was up to me,..." and then send me off to bug Tyrant.
hmpf. What the hell do they fear? That I might use this data for my own computer animations? Well, not using an asset at all is even worse economically thinking.
That it might be a precedent for similiar cases? My, they should take any opportunity of help they have with those peripheral things. Especially pure client side things are not really a problem with a well defined API where the border is.Message Edited by Rabenschwinge on 07-04-2005 02:18 PM

Yes, and with the devs just recently making combat dabbling worthwhile again, I highly doubt they'd want to move to my plan. Now you are disliking it for reasons I can understand though, so I'm cool with that. ![]()
As for the art resources, I totally agree that turning things over to players and using them for free labor is a much better setup than outsourcing to India or just sitting on resources not using them... but game companies have a lot of fears over legal matters when involving players, so I don't know that we'll ever see this for normal games (not virtual spaces like Second Life).
Gah,Dancer would be so much fun if we could make real player content - I would just love that. Give us an in game anim editor and a base set... I could be lost for months.
*le sigh*
Panthu is right about the "fears over legal matters". In the US there are very specific labor laws affecting what services and functions can be provided by volunteer staff in a company. A game I used to work for had a great group of volunteer player assistants. There are no words for how awesome these people were. The group had to be disbanded due to labor laws. US based companies have to be really careful with this sort of thing.

Well iam furious over the new changes to dancer .. if i had wanted to be a crafter i would BE an artisan !!!!! Not to mention nothing was given to the older dancers ,. where are the new exotic dances ? nooo we just got a crappy novice dance ! i cant believe you have turned the entertainer proffession into a crafting one ! its just bloody ridiculous ! and i thought jedi was nerfed ! but what has been done to entertainer is just criminal ! you have completely ruined the profession , but hey, we look pretty with our new props.
I'm sure that if you do not wish to craft props there will be plenty of enterprising dancers out there that will craft them and put them on the bazzar's for everyone else to use.
It will almost be like Musicians and instruments, I guess, where there are a few Musicians on each server that supply the majority of the instruments to the population, who do not wish to be bothered by the hassle of creating their own.
