Thread: Corral Plan: A Rough Draft 1

I agree that it would be a nice addition for CH's to have a place to store and display their pets. It gives them an excellentopportunity to train and keep pets for sale, but I disagree 100% with this structure's ability to harvest. You already have to have some harvesting abilities (Scout) to become a CH in the first place, and now you're saying you don't want to use those skills anymore.
If you want to make money harvesting hides you should have to do it the same way rangers and scouts do it, the hard way. This especially becomes true if there's an excellent shift of X kind of hide in, and you're shearing 40 hides every hour, without risk,on a creature that quite possibly might take a group of several scouts or rangers great risk to bring down. This doesn't include the constant travel costs Scouts and rangers absorb moving from planet to planet, and then buffing costs, and then cloning and insuring, and the risk of item decay from DB's. When you factor these costs and risks in vs. your proposed maintenance fees for zero risk harvesting, this becomes a severe imbalence.
If you think that giving ranger's a dart to make for you to have zero risk harvesting makes up for this imbalence I'm not sure you've completely thought this out. For one, more likely than not, rangers would refuse to make this dart for any accept their closest friends and guildmate's, and as well, these darts would probably sell for astronomical costs.
I can understand the thought processes behind having this sheering ability (sheep shearers for example). But sheep are only sheered once or twice I year I believe, not once every hour for 100% of their hides. How long is a RT hour in game terms? roughly a day to half a day? Could you honestly sheer a sheep for 100% of it's hide every day? Even every month? As well. There are many kinds of hide that could not possibly be removed without the death of the animal. Leather only comes from dead animals, in Real Life and in game terms. As well, an insect doesn't hold it's organs in too well without it's chitinous covering.
Being able to harvest in this manner introduces a severe imbalence in the game, and needs to be re-thought. CH's already have a harvesting ability from Scout... use that. Other than that particular function, I'm all for CH's having this barn/holding pen/manger/etc... and I agree CH's need one.
actualy if youd read the ideas fully, youd notice the harvesting hide idea (and i think it was ONLY wooly hide) was an afterthought, the main idea was to harvest eggs and milk. and ANYONE can harvest eggs from lairs, it is not a scout skill. im also not aware of any creatures that require a buff before you can milk them. although i will admit to not trying it on rancors. but for the sake of argument lets look at harvesting hides of any kind.
these structures couldnt outharvest a scout let alone a ranger, remember it would be the equilvilent of harvesting the wooly hide (or something similar) of about 20 cl10 animals per day, im a novice ranger and i can harvest that much in about 20 minutes! even if we extended the idea beyond wooly hide and you stuck rancors in there, with a cl cap at around 200 thats 3 or 4 rancors per day. not even one lair. plus to tame just one baby rancor, we'd have to kill about a dozen adults anyway and then take the risk of taming it.
so farmswouldnt equalrangers in quantity, what about quality? wellrangers can travel to wherever the best milk/eggs/woolyhide is right now and get whateverthey like.farmers wouldhave to get some pets now, and hope that their spawn would still be a decent quality in a weeks time when the pets are old enough to harvest. so rangers/scouts should beatfarms on quality and quantity, farms would also require maintenanceon the structure, sofarmers wouldnt be making as much profit as rangers either. the only benefit that a farm would provide is that the products made would be a lot easier to get to the end consumer, and could be provided on a regular basis. so if you want your goods quick and easy go to a farmer, if you want quality or quantity go find a ranger.
also your assuming that the farms are owned strictly by CH's. ideally, these structures could be owned by anyone, but a CH has to tame the animals that are placed in there. i was supposing a situation where a chef owns the farm but buys birds from a ch every few weeks to lay eggs. the birds that go in there could be natural or made by a BE to produce extra eggs, better quality eggs etc
as to your notion that we should harvest hides the same way rangers/scouts do (ignoring the fact that we ARE scouts and pointing out that at no time did we sign away our rights to harvest anything when we took novice CH) we have had it rammed down our throats time and time again that we are NOT a combat prof. if we were it wouldnt take us 15 seconds to call our weapons and then watch while our cl 60 pets get ripped to shreds by a cl 25 critter in the wild. if they take away the majority of our combat skills, why shouldnt we be given something inreturn.id like to see how much a fencer/ranger could harvest if the devs changed his prof so that at master he could walk up to a rancor and stick him with a pin once a minute. or scout/riflemen if the best weapon they were allowed to carry was a water pistol.
and to your final comparrison between the rough idea for farms and the real life occupation of sheep shearing. there i can see your point. and i will bear it in my mind the next time i fly to another planet, hop on my flying bike, track down a flock of wild sheep and shoot it with my laser rifle.
....do sheep come in flocks or herds or what?

II have slowly been working on hit but I am also in the process of building a website for my ROTC at school and with HW my time has been very limted.
If you have the time again to do it that would be cool. If want how aboutyou work on bringing the Corral Post together and I can work on the Animal Armor/PvP/Mounted weapons post?
If you want to PM me your MSN or AIM name so we could talk about it that would be cool aos
good idea spreadsheet.what if the ability to harvest wooly hide regularly was reserved for owners who had novice ranger?
and any kind of breeding pen was reserved for use soley by CH's and BE's. following this logic, only CH's and merchants would be allowed to use a vendor terminal in any kind of stable.
The one thing we must be careful of is thatifany of these structures are loaded up with too many restrictions, we shoot ourselves in the foot. if you have to be a bothan male with master CH, at least novice ranger and BE and your name must start with a 'H' to own one, thenthe structures end up as more of a novelty than anything practical orusefull.
and i cannot beleive that no-one in the entire CH community knows if its flocks or herds or what! THIS IS IMPORTANT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
