Creature Handler Archive

Goodbye and good luck, Ko-a. You and Vert served this profession as well as anyone could have expected, and better than most other correspondents do for their professions.

This was a profession I never imagined I would play when I bought SWG, but much to my surprise, it turned out to be the most enjoyable(ever after the Dec 03 nerf, but before the CU). At least with the removal of the CH profession,I have a kind of closure, without feeling I'm leavingmy petsbehind. It was only the (misguided)hope for better things ahead for Creature Handlers that kept me from cancelling these past months. But I was already drawing close as it was.

I will see what happens with this new system. I will miss my pets. But at least I will have some comfort in knowing I was a Master Creature Handler until there was no longer such a thing in the game. And then I can quit without any remorse.

I'm 36, a guy, and been on the verge of tears now for the last 2 days.

It's time now I think to stop grinding my BH on Valcyn and go back to my MCH on Intrepid to spend the last few days/weeks with my beloved pets before they are gone forever.

I propose a memorial...all CH's masters or not, even non-CH's who have pets, on all servers meet out front of the star port in C-Net to display their pets so all of us can meet and remember each other's pets. Maybe do this like every friday until the profession is no more. Try not to overlap pets so everyone can properly admire and remember them all. We may have to spread out to the plains outside of C-Net.

Ko/Mike, You've done a great job as our corrospondant. Thank you for all the hard work you did for us.

Just used my CU Respec token to become a MCH. At least I'll have a couple of weeks.
Here's to a profession and community I'll never have the pleasure of truely getting to know.

This post may seem a bit confused and disjointed, but given the shock I've been in the last 24 hours, please forgive me. Ko-airi, I want to extend my heartfelt thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have given our profession.

When I was told this, initially, I didn't believe it was true. Then the posts. I have been a Creature Handler with Jin'lores, my twi'lek first. My mad scientist who was squelched as a character when the CU gutted her Data pad of Bio-engineered babies... and Taliesen, my Bothan.

Those of Kettemoor who know me and have known me since the early days know how important my babies were to my characters, how much a part of who they are, the animals were. I've been in this profession since the beginning, I loved it immensely and when I was given the news, yes, I cried.

Right now, I'm crying again, reading Ko-airi's letter to us. I refuse to be thought of as insignificant and only a mere 1% and Taliesen will wear his master CH title until the end.

Tal's herd of banthas will always be cherished in his data pad, but essentially non-useable. He will still have Spike, thankfully, dear Spike is only level 10.

I honestly don't know if I will stay. I see nothing left except empty static professions and this was what I never wanted SWG to be. Now all of my babies are being yanked from me without any warning, in fact, completely the opposite.

As someone else said, yes, it's juvenille but I truly hate LucasArts or SoE or whoever is responsible for this, right now. I truly hurt.

To all of my fellow CH's out there, I salute you all, I love you all as fellow dedicated handlers and lovers of animals that have fought for 2 1/2 years for our profession. Farewell to those of you who have definitely cancelled, I may be following you in that goodnight.

First of all, I would like to thank Chibiwolf for making this post for me, and that the reason I asked her to is because I had to cancel my account for financial reasons, but it wsa my itent to come back this month. The day before I was planning to come back... Furryjackal told me of this travesty. I have a Master Bounty Hunter/Master Creature Handler on Kettemoor named Teavai Ynai. She has the level 65 varactyl (among other much loved pets), and it's my baby "(named even after my RL cat, Shayla-Shayla").

Teavai Ynai may be a bounty hunter, so in a way she'll be ok in the "new game" but, she's not really a bounty hunter... she's a bounty hunter AND creature handler. The removal of Jedi Bounties doesn't bother me personally, 'cause I didn't do it really. I'm a roleplayer, and Teavai is a bounty hunter in that sense. I may still return to the game and wear my Master Creature Handler title around until the patch goes live. Then, Teavai is dead.

My characters on other servers are dying too, really... Racquel (Bria) is a TK/Dancer... TK is going away, and I dont' want her to be JUST a dancer... Kaiori (Starsider) is a Master Smuggler / Master Pistoleer, so I guess she'll be ok as just a smuggler... Jen'tara (Intrepid) will actually benefit, as she's the character I'm working toward jedi... but... if the "death" of all that makes Teavai and Racquel the characters they are is what I must accept to finally get my jedi.... I don't want a jedi. We must fight this with all that we can (and if your non-CH friends at all care about your fun in the game, get them to fight with us), and make it clear that while CH may be less than 1% of the player base (if we beleive that statistic), that is only because they have been nerfing us into oblivion from the beginning... All that are left of us are the diehard "pet" lovers. We still should be more than a 1% statistic to them. We are paying customers just as much as the L337 JEDI! Not to mention what about the Non-CH that rely on us to tame/train their mounts. Are they getting rid of mounts? Are they going to have NPC vendors to sell mounts? Either way, 1% of the player base or not, we provide a service to the players just like the crafters, and many of the other players will miss us when we are gone.

I'm very, very sad about the upcoming changes, especially (but not limited) about the loss of the Creature Handler. It was sure the most interesting, rewarding profession I played during the 21 months I'm playing this game.

/deepbow to all the fellow CH - be proud, you are definately a great more-than-1%-group of players.

Since Creature Handlers were enticed into buying an expansion for content that would only be valid for 14 days, and given that SOE withheld significant and material information on changes which were planned which would have materially affected purchasing decisions for players of Creature Handlers, and given that the information on changes was delayed for release until one day after the expansion went live, then many are wondering if this is actionable.

Since deceptive advertising and trade practices are illegal in the US, and the Federal Trade Commission is assigned to investigate and proscecute such occurrances, they would be the ones to determine if it is worthy of investigation.

It has been described in other posts as a bait-and-switch tactic, which no EULA can ever "cover" or provide any degree of immunity for.
