Thread: I knew CH was bad, but THIS BAD

This weekend I had my first, and inadvertent, PVP experience. Someone shot me in the back while I was TEF doing a faction mission so before I die I set my pets on him. Well, they both get torn through in a few seconds. Now these were only dewbacks so I figure Id go overt and do some fighting just to see actually how bad it was. I was amazed and humbled, I heard CH was a joke in PVP but I though there was SOME overstating, there isn't. I honestly never imagined it was this bad, where a level 34 animal can not only get incapacitated and killed in maybe 7 or 8 seconds but also not do any damage to the player, a sliver at most. So the only thing I got out of taking my pets out during PVP was... VITALITY LOSS! so now they're even weaker! I can only laugh at the irony. It's ridiculous because maybe if the would have left the CH structure alone from the beginning instead of changing at the first sounds of complaint for other professions, it may have been balanced now, at the very least it would have been better than this. I didn't grind at all and I'm still not a master, and getting the XP to get where I'm at now was been EXCRUCIATING so I'm a little afraid to drop CH but It's crazy to me all the constraints the put in this profession, was there NO foresight?

-No easy way to get pets into the fight (wish they'd hurry up on the camp issue)
-No easy healing
-No defense
-No offense
-3 pet CL70 cap
-PVP vitality loss
-Weaker pets per CL
-Weaker armor ratings

I just would think they would have just done a little at a time to avoid over kill, but that's just me. Just a word for anyone considering seeing what your pets can do... DON'T, they can't do anything but lose vitality, and as you know they kill you before the attack you're pet. Who knows maybe they're may be some light at the end of this tunnel with the rebalance.

They really should fix this (maybe).

In the old days of PvP, every one did full damage to everything.

(so the first person to fire always wins)

Then they fixed it so that PvP fights would last longer - players did fractional damge to each other.

(then people complained because pets still did full damage)

Now, pets do fractional damage, but take full damage.

  • Player hits another player = fractional damage

  • Player's pethits another player = fractional damage

  • Player hit another player's pet = full damage

If you do the math, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that we suck at PvP.

Oh thats right when the pet is sicked on someone it does about half the damage it would normally do on pve. Yeah an incredibily stupid move I might add. I am a creature handler, not a master I can only tame level 40 pets so far. But if I am in pvp and I get a rancor sicked at me I pretty much expect to die, that or have some serious wounds, but it doesnt happen. Hell, the other night some of us were defending a base against rebels, first wave comes, they cant take the base down, then the second wave comes, they bring in all sorts of pets, all the pets got done in, not one pet was able to lay a hand on another player, and we are talking about atleast 15 pets from gurrecks to rancors. Yeah, the creature handlers weapons for the most part are his or her pets, kind of makes me want to quit ch and go rifleman.

This a true story that happened 4 nights ago on Bloodfin: A TKM/Brawler/2hand melee was asking to duel while waiting on a shuttle. I offered to let him duel my full grown Arachne Widow as long we both agreed to stop before incap no matter who was winning. He agreed and we started the duel. He told me to send my pet at him to start the duel. Less than 10 seconds later the duel was ended bwcause the widow was about to die! The guy my pet dueled lost less than 1/3 of his HAM. We dueled again after I healed my pet with the same results. He took the Widow down in seconds.

Now obviosly his advantage was in all the melee defence and unarmed toughness from all three melee classes, but I was still hoping the widow would have been a little more competitive...

Don't forget....our pets were the first to be "nurffed" in the overall combat change. thankfully I've never PVP with my pets because of the ludicrus changes implimented

If I want to get serious about PvP, then I have to drop CH, which I am not willing to do. I can dabble in PvP, stick with a good group in PvP, still have some fun with it, but I am never going to be a major player in PvP.

We can all argue about whether or not this is good game design, but the best PvP templates do not include CH.

yup i agree pets pretty much suck in PVP. but before the "nerf" the command attack was basically an I-Win button. all they gotta do is one of two things leave the pets taking full damage alone and let them deal full damage. or reduce the damage they do take to the same level that the owner of the pet takes.

seems a lot of CH like to conviently ignore the facts of life for others and play the woe is me game when something is obviously overpowered in the CH profession. but its just a shame that we did get overnerfed in the PVP area. i will grant that.

And since the pet vitality loss in PvP thing was completely forgotten, CH's are completely screwed in the PvP dept. I am about sick of this CH purging that is still going on...

Didn't you know the devs consider CH a "support" profession in PvP?

Apparently this means keeping out of the way and holding onto the fencers' valuable stuff, because otherwise the only thing you're supporting as a CH in PvP is your enemy's ego.
