I think I am hosed. Until a month ago the only other "combat" skill I had was pistol branch of the Marksman line. If it weren't for pets, I never would have been able to get any missions remotely close to what I can actually handle. Now I am Novice Rifleman and 4/4/4/2 Marksman and I still need to group to get good missions (and by that I mean ones that are worth my "skill level" not ones that pay a ton of loot).
I've been playing TC but am not going to grind CH, so I'll have to defer to someone else on the impact this will have going forward---but it makes me nervous.

I think it may be to complete the solo-group nerf.
We were the only profession that could get around it.
I don't like it, I disagree with it, but I understand the thoughts behind it.

Pets are supposed to increase combat capability, right? I don't see how they will if they're not factored into the group in some way, since a stronger group is less damage facing the SAME creature! Add to that the likelyhood of creatures targetting the player in preference to the pet...

Thank god for the respec, I guess. I just don't have it in me to grind another profession in order to earn some combat skills. Heh heh... at this point I'll be lucky to master Rifleman, let alone ever unlock my Jedi slot.

This is terrible, the only way I could live with this is if they considered CH skill boxes towards your combat level.

Pretty sure they do, unless that has recently changed.

OK I admit I do not look in fourm that much but can someone direct me to the thread explaining how the CU effects CH? Bbasically so I can levels from ch? When did CH become a combat class I could have swore some one said CH would never be a combat class and that is why we was messed with.

We are not entirely sure.
The combat docs pretty much state:
Depends on the pet used.

Ok all this stuff is really starting to annoy me lol
Its not so much any one thing but the contradictions of what we are supposed to be considered and then how we seem to be passed over. Yes they did change the cl for ch's as they are doing it for rangers and even scouts in the near furture. that was only after an outcry from the community.
It seems they want pets to be a version of a hand held weapon, imo
the diversity of ch as was written in the doc's is not apparent to me at this point in time. Tanking pets can only retain agro if you pause between attacks with your melee/ranged weapons. damage as has been tested to date by pets is pretty standard.
pets not counting toward your cl is not very good for us considering everything after the cu is dependant on cl. considering a lvl 70 should be a strong and worthwhile comrade I would thing some type of increase in cl would apply.
So at this point in time, what roles can weperform within a group? I don't see us having any usefulness in a group other than our combat half of a template. since any melee template of an upper cl will be far better at tanking and dilivering damage than any pet we could possibly control.
Even using pets, when grouped with other players, assecondary offensive damage givers. will that be enough or shall I say will the damage done be significant enough to offset the timers on calling, storing, and healing pets. It would seem to me we are in the exact same position as before. No one will want us to even call our pets, they will just be in the way. Except for noob groups of coarse.
I think this is pretty much going to make ch a null and void profession. even for solo-ing.
We are travelling a path of novelty and pet entertainers. Even the rare collectors will be hurting since the hate system and cl will make such things as taming more difficult if not impossible on some planets with ultra rares agroing on you.
I wonder if George Lucas will ever play his own game, well after his movie I would think he would have a little time on his hands. Wonder if he would like it?
