Thread: Strategies for PvP -- Constructive feedback welcome

I've only done a little bit of PvP but now that I'm close to mastering both CH and pistoleer (my two chosen professions) and I have some decent gear I'm thinking about trying PvP on a more regular basis. I know that many people feel that CH is completely useless in PvP these days but I'm still willing to give it a try. I fully expect to lose regularly but I would like to give it the best shot that I can using the current system. I've laid out some thoughts on the subject below and I welcome any constructive feedback.

First, there are a variety of PvP situations -- one on one, squad sized, and large scale. I guess I'm mainly strategizing for 1 on 1 for now and I figure that anything that works in 1 on 1 should also be at least partiallly applicable to other scenarios.

I expect to do most of the damage myself since most people will have kinetic resistant armor. I'm mainly counting on my pets to provide distractions, minor tanking, and special attacks to put state effects on my opponents.

One scenario I have in mind is to use two BE pets (twins). One thought that I've had is to have them engineered for maximum mind -- and then have doctors buff them up in their health and action. As far as I know doctors can buff pets as well. As everyone knows, in order to compete in PvP, players have to get buffs so it only makes sense that pets should get buffed for serious PvP also.

The preferred specials would be 1)intimidate and stun on one pet and 2)dizzy and crippling on the other. Intimidate/stun gives good damage reduction and dizzy/cripple can keep opponents busy trying to stand up (especially when coupled with my pistoleer knockdown attack).

Resistances might be high stun and acid (100% is a theoretical limit on those I believe!) since those are the most common damage types that we face in PvP.

I can't decide if I should pick a large or small skin -- small is good because it makes targetting slightly more difficult while big is good because it is eye catching (and keeps the attention away from me). I guess it depends on how genuinely survivable I can make my pets.

Anyway, that's it for now. This is all theoretical at the moment since I haven't had these hypothetical BE twins made yet. That's why I'm asking for feedback here.

Thanks,

Good Luck!, I too was an MCH/Pistoleer. All that will happen is your target will ignore your pets and target you. You might stand a chance if you are buffed, and they are new and panic. More than likely they will disease/poison you, but you just won't do that much damage with your pistols. You might stand a chance, one on one, and if they have no medic skills. Get a screecher and a good be pet combo, but again, if they have doc skills they'll just heal any state effects you use against them.....sigh....And to think we used to be able to have three rancors out at the same time........no2

Actually awhile back I was a MP / MCH and used a Huurton Stalker in PvP. It was AWESOME cuz it was small, hard to target, did nice damage and nice HAM. However, I think this was back before our creatures were nerfed in anticipation of the combat revamp....I can't remember...to much has happened since then.I actually got my first legit kill with this combo and I was stoked.

However, since then, I've discovered the magic of smuggler. Dude, if you wanna PvP with pistoleer, I can't stress enough how you should get Smuggler and at least pick up Dirty Fighting 3. Low Blow is a ranged special that will KD your victim and it very rarely misses. I have also heard that Last Ditch is way better than Fan Shot but I have no experience with that. Before dropping Pistols, I had LB and I was amazed at how much more effective I was. It's a very handy special.

I dropped Pistoleer cuz the holo told me to master TKA. I'm sooooo unbelievably happy that I did cuz TKM is very, very powerful. I was doing as much damage with 1 box over Novice TKA as I was as a MPistoleer. Pistoleer is seriously broken and should be fixed. You wouldn't believe the difference if I told you so all I can say is....when you've had enough of dying in PvP...try TKA. The only bad thing....blasters are sooo much more Star Warsy than TKM.

Good Luck and May The Force Be With You.

I find the best tactic is to whip out two ravenous tortons and set them loose on your enemy. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. You may not win, but you'll sure as hellbe annoying. Hehehe, a force to be reckoned with you are. Lag do you control.

Truthfully the best strategie for PvP as a ch is get another profession.
I have taken down so many CH's by incapping their pets in 1-3 shots and then at the same time it isn't even worth breaking a sweat over.

Your best hope in PvP is a kamakazi approach. Get a pet with strong disease and hope it hits the mind pool. Then you'll still die but at least your opponent will at least be inconvienenced by having to heal the wounds and at best killed by it and have to rebuff before coming to kick your arse again

Really though, we have absolutely no legitimate role in PvP.

I figured there would be some pessimism ! That's ok, but seriously has anyone tried using 100% stun or acid resistant pets in PvP? I'd love to see the rifleman firing away with his uber jawa rifle not doing any damage. Or tried getting their pets to have doctor buffs? I mean if we, as players expect to have to have buffs to be competitive in PvP, why not our pets also?

Also, when you say that specials don't work, you mean it's difficult to get them to hit right? 'Cause many of them do work. How difficult is to get an intimidate, stun, etc. to stick on another player using pets in PvP? Anyone have any experience with this?

Ok here is what I would do, get 4 lvl 35's

Creature one:Kimo, Torton, or Fammba
11-13k Ham
armor
60KIN
Dizzy
Crip Strike
400DMG

Creature 2:Kima or Bearded Jax
11-13k HAM
armor
60kin
Intimidate
Stun
500DMG

This would be for a Melee type opponent

For a Riffleman carrying a T21:
pet1:Kimo, Torton, or Fammba
13k HAM
NO ARMOR
60 Energy
60 BLAST
Dizzy
Crip Strike
400 DMG

Pet2:Kima or Bearded JAX
11-13k HAM
Armor
60KIN
Intimidate
Stun
500DMG

If he breaks out the laseer riffle your dead, or you can have another with armor.

Thought here is the big one will draw the fire while the little one can spam his more important specials.

Keep your distance on the TKA, and stick close to the riffleman.

If you can get them flip floppin you should pull this off... may want to use a DX2 or what ever the acid gun is just cause not many do, but hold the FWG5 when you start so he can see it.

Also hope he is not smart and just comes after you, use /tellpet macros, and may want to stroll into town having pets follow someone else with your novice marksman title up.

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.
