Hey guys, I was wondering, since I'm about to become CH, I have two questions.

What kind of pet should I use to level?

Where should I level?

Well, I read your pikeman post, andhere's my stab atCH. Levelling CH for the second time, I got a decent non-CH BE pet and did the mid-level Naboo stuff(plains tusk cats, gualamas) for my first couple of boxes. Then I started using a ranged pet, and hit Ft Tusken, and sicced my pet on everything that moved(and a couple things that didn't). With a CL 24 pet with ranged I got a bit over 1k xp per crazed geonosian, and they were relatively safe for the petas well.

For grinding I would suggest the ferocious kusak, 30% kinetic on a CL 21 pet, they can take a couple of hits from most common levelling mobs. Squill caves would probably be good for you with a ranged pet since you're melee, I'm training rifle so the cave thing was not good. I'm by no means a grinder or in a hurry to master, so there's probably a lot of better ways to do it, but this is working well for me.Always leave a datapad slot open and tame/train/release every baby you come across.(Tip: I have /tellpet heel macro'd and in my F3 spot, so when I did the TTR thing I would hit ~{non-shift}, click on the command, and then hit F3, much faster.)

For how to go up, I got management 1 first, so I could group with my pet, and then empathy 1 for the trick1. Taming 1 was the next victim, so I could grab my 3 tusk cats.Then I went up to training 4 for the storage and additional commands, then the taming line so I could start taming more aggressive pets. Management was the 3rd line finished, and I'm almost done with Empathy now. 2 pets out together doesn't have the same value as it did, so management isn't a priority unless you're just dying to train mounts.

And I hope this isn't too confusing...any incoherency is purely the fault of that twi'lek! /pointat Tivo <grin>

Good advice above, but I just wanted to put another spin on it, maybe you will find something helpful out of it. hate to say it, but my first pet as a novice CH was a Kaduu, and it was one mean duck. Females are L12 and males are 14, so off the line you can use teh females. Not sure about Corillea or Tat, Naboo was my stomping ground when I picked up CH. I also did all the L1 boxes first, but earlyon I was worried about two things, CL increases and storage space. I used catch and release more then I should have I think, but it was a fun way of doing it. You dont go out hunting the babes, just tame any you see and let it go. With all 4 L1 boxs it was 500xp per release give or take a few. I didnt get into hunting until I picked up my first Peko Peko..another bad bird. Had 2 of those and used teh heck out of them. After all that starter stuff, I started working to Tame Vicious, from there things took off for me. Guild took me to the geo-caves one night and it was nothing but fur, feathers, geo-parts and balster fire. Everything was a blurr that night, cant remember much heh heh.

You've gotten some good advice. Not a lot I can add. CH isn't one you can grind easily unless you have a very strong pet and a group to help. Fortunately CH is also one that is fun and mixes with other professions in many ways.

If you really want to grind fast then get a BE pet with excellent HAM and kenitic resists for its level. Then group with friends and go after higher level MOBs. The pet only has to hit once to get experience. Have good melee members in your group, let them tank, and just have your pet do one hit to everything on your friend.

I did well more than half my boxes through train and release. As you get more commands every tame starts being worth 1000+ experience after you teach all commands. Don't ignore all those gnort babies out there .

He's right on that. As it stands now, honestly, get all the level 1 boxes and then hit the Taming and Training colums, That way you ain't stuck to non vicous creatures and you get more comands by taming and training because Training gives you more commands than any other line. You get the Patrol, Get patrol point, Clear Patrol Point, Wedge formation, colum formation and I think the stay command all with in that colum. Empathy could actually be saved for last, because honetsly only thing there is the trick 1 and trick 2, and you only need the one trick, embold and enrage pet really ain't worth it.

Also, find a few pets that you want for the level you are and go hunting for them. A couple weeks ago, someone suggested I get a Greater Sludge Panther (level 25) and a Grand Wrix (also Level 25) and a Kuzac (again, Level 25) I got my GSP and my GW, still haven't headed to loc for my Kuzac, still thinking of heading that way. Hit submit twice by accedent. Either way, when i went to get my GSP and my GW, I managed 2 boxes of CH just by finding and releasing every baby I found. Have fun with it and it will come along fine.

I can only go 4-4-1-4, or 4-4-4-1.... which do you guys think I should do?

Ooooo tough call. Personally, Im a Pack Master, but only because I get into the roll and actually use my mounts. The other bennie would be to pull out two pets. Now that isnt as useful as it once was, so, unles your a nut like me and try to throw a saddle on anything large enough, I'd do the 4/4/4/1, but it really depends what your looking for out of being a CH.

I would do 4414, more commands, the only comands you would be missing would be Trick 2, transfer and Range. Embolden and Enrage pet are useless pretty much

definetly go 4/4/1/4, empathy is the weakest of the tree practicaly speaking.

i always start out with wrix from corellia and get the entire bottom row 1st, the order doesnt really matter but the group command from management and the two extra pets from training are good to have. after that i worked up the taming and training trees simultaniously then management followed by empathy.

the best place for XP is dathomir fighting rancors - so long as your pet survives! if your a high level combat prof then you can probably tank for your pet (oh how things have changed) and remeber that it doesnt have to be involved in the fight right from the start or even do lots of damage. so long as your pet gets a scracth in you'll get the same xp as if it had killed the target itself. what i liked to do as a rifleman was use conceal shot until a rancor barely had any HAM left then send my pet in, once the pet had done the tiniest amount of damage i finished the ranc off myself and reaped the ch xp!

it'll still take an age to get tho! good luck!
