Thread: Is CH useless now?

With the almost complete extinction of hunting groups, do Creature Handlers serve a viable purpose anymore?

It occurred to me today while talking in my guild that some people believe Creature Handler is a "useless" profession. I started planning out my Rifleman/CH template for PVE recently since I've never actually done it.

Just a few months ago, the CH was a very popular profession and widely used in groups. I rarely see a Creature Handler anymore. Is this a dying profession? Does it make sense for a Rifleman to use CH pets for tanking .... or am I dreaming?

If there are any creature handlers out there using a similar template for TANKING purposes, can you share your experience with it? Does it really work or should I forget about CH entirely?

Currently, I am 0/1/1/1 in CH.

I understand CH isn't good in PVP.

My question is about PVE. Do CH pets work well for tanking against PVE mobs?

Useless no, lost our niche yes

Tanking in PvE is ok, but if your tamed pet goes up against a NPC creature of the same type guess who loses. Yep your pet.

As you can tell from my Sig, I am still a MCH, and Was a Master Rifleman, and this used to be my template. While not the best, It actually did help me againt 80% of PVE. Some things ya dont want to tank against with pets would be the Krayt. Other than that yes, bring lots of pet stims and give them TLC afterwards!

edit- No we are not useless.

Tanking in PvE is ok

CH isn't useless. It can be a good help when you're still weak, and you need a tank for solo-hunting. When you reach hi levels, yes, CH becomes useless: most of pets die in 3 secs.

On FarStar: MYLO EXAGONALIS ---> Mon Calamari Pikeman / Doctor.

On Chimaera: JANTO KORMAKIS ---> Human Commando / Rifleman / Squad Leader

Creature Handler has been a useless profession since two weeks after this game launched or the first patch. This is where they nerfed some things which had to be nerfed like a novice ch calling2 gurreks, but they also nerfed their hit points which was stupid. I was an MCH and I loved it, that is until I got tired of the rinse and repeat deal, walking for hours and hours through a planet which is supposed to be dangerous to encounter 5 mobs throughout the terrain. Lol, CH was a lot of fun as an exploration profession, they just never really got around furthering it.

OK, just kidding. I actually just saw someone who was a CH/Rifleman and it looked like it worked pretty well for him. His pets tanked and he stayed a nice safe distance.

I do agree, however, with the person that said pets become less helpful as the level of mobs you fight increases. Your max "soloable" mob will likely be much lower than if you just became your own tank. You'll reach a point where you spend more time keeping your pets alive than actually participating in the fight.

LOL - I was actually thinking of picking that up!

I have to laugh when I look at my profession choices: CH, Ranger, Smuggler, Commando... I definitely know how to pick them! Thank god I never followed through on my DE plans.
