I was just thinking about this the other day and figured who better to discuss this with than my fellow ch's.

We all know there are professions that cost far more sp then they are worth so what do you think is the worst?

at this point SL is a strong canidate for profession, does anyone even know a SL anymore?

For trees I think that is debatable:
The hireing tree of merchant. after you pick and dress your vendors is there a use for this tree at all?

The trapping branch of scout. Traps are useful for n00bs but otherwise I stoped useing them when I became a novice rifleman.

Survival Brance of scout. Forage useless except for getting bait for fishing, and camps, the only thing that higher level camps get you is more xp.

Artisan survey. gets you more range, and that is it.

The CH empathy tree was once a canidate untill the revamp of the skill trees.

Oponions, discussion?

I've never been a SL, so cant comment on how useful/useless the skills are. But I agree that they are rare - probably even more rare than CH. The one SL I knew quit months ago and haven't seen any since.

I disagree with some of your branch choices. The survey branch makes a huge difference in my opinion. I actually still find the Scout trapping branch useful as a master ranger, but that's probably because my primary combat prof is CH and I can't rely on pet specials to apply state effects.

My nomination for prof with the most useless branches...

Ranger!

Compound the useless scout Survival branch from scout with an equally useless branch in Ranger. Then throw in a trapping branch that only includes 2 new traps, one of which produces a useless state effect. That's a total of 3 worthless branches for an elite profession. Plus it requires a complete novice skill (which I think does make sense for that particular profession, but it does make the sp:value ratio worse).

On average, it seems like almost every profession I've looked at seems to have at least 2 worthless branches, or at least a good number of skills that are horribly broken. CH did at least make all 4 branches worthwhile after the nerf/revamp, but I agree that in the old days Empathy was a waste.

Is that why ID's have been updated and 'improved' in every patch from the last 6 months and no other proffs have? The devs are telling us something about ID's....... Blue Frog when they eliminate ID as a profession.....

Your all wrong its actually the smuggler. Lets list off the skills they have that are totally worthless.

Spices nobody used them unless they cant get their hands on chef foods.

Slice containers. Containers never have anything good in them.

Slice terminals. Nobody even knows they can do this.

Underworld line oh good they can talk to jawas.

Feighn death a move everyone is pushing to get removed, because the jedis are abuseing it.

Smuggler attacks hugely ineffective ham eating monsters.

Smuggler haveing to take unarmed. Why they need this I have no clue other then to make the profession uber expensive.

Smuggling spices since nobody wants or needs spices how good is this.

Drumrole what smugglers got left sliceing weapons, and sliceing armor, and to tick them off even more.

Most weaponsmiths and armorsmiths of high calibre master smuggler to slice their own.

By the way smugglers get a real kick a weapon cert. They can use dh17 and fwg5 pistols as their primary weapons.

I agree with spices.
I agree with containers.
I have a friend who slices every mission he does for 40K solo missions.
Underworld if I remember is the one my friend farms IMP faction and sells.
FD has its uses to smuggler. Unfortunately the new Jedi system sucks. It should have stayed as unlocking a Jedi slot as it always was.
I am pretty sure that Last Ditch shot is the one my friend rolls through lairs with. Hard for things to fight back when they cannot stand.

As a whole to answer this post with what I feel is my best answer. Every bit of the CH profession is a waste. Until they revamp us, we are better off being elsewhere. We stay because we really are the coolest people in the game, or gluttons for punishment.

I must disagree and state my thoughts in order to avoid people not liking smuggling before trying it.

Underworld: It has no special or to hit/defensiva bonus, you get no schematics, but it's a matter of RP the fact of being able to talk with jawas, trade FP between factions and, if you are rebel, you'll avoid scannings almost 100% of times. Based on my own experience as Colonel, I never get overtsince I hit Underworld IV

Slicing: Slicing is working pretty good. I wish you could chosse between slicing speed/damage on weapons or encumbrance/effectiveness on armours but it's actually a must to slice your equipment, and only an smuggler can help you at that.

Dirty Fighting: FD and Last Ditch are quite useful. I was once BH/Pistoleer/Smuggler and between a bunch of specials I got, Last Ditch was one of my favorites. Also, Low blow is fun to spam About FD we have nothing to say... 90% of Vette badges come from people using FD.

Spices: It's true that chef food is quite better, but Muon gold is still a must in high end battles. 10 minutes to get out of the hell is useful and almost every fighter is carring a crate of muon gold ad even pixie. The weakest of smuggler's branchs in my opinion.

Back to the post, I think SL and ID are the less attractive/useful profesions available. There are a few other that are far, far away of its original intentions as BH, Smugglers, Jedi (50% of people hating them... there must be a hidden mesage!) but as a day by day job, I still think SL and ID stinks

artisan survey? well, i think it is pretty useful to get much more range for surveying especially when you quickly need to search an area for some desired resources (especially with bike, less mount/umounting).

This was a great post, as I too had been looking at all the professions the other day and some of which made me ask "Why would you bother"

Merchant for sure is a told waste of time, for oneI avoid large guild hall 20 plus vendors at all cost...The best deals in the galaxy comes from the out of the way mechant tent. Now if it gave the merchant some useful things like more lots maxing at 5 or 10 at master to run more harvester and allowed them larger homes. I could see some use, but really the only things worth anything is the placement of a tent and more storage space on vendors. I say break of the merchant skills and place them in the artisan tree and across all the crafting professions to include the Bio Engineer and Doctors, also maybe a few for musicians to sell the instrurments.

Image Designer Other than stat migration, and the limited amout of changes they can do, what is the point of this profession? I have been playing since launch and have used an ID twice during that time. Let the Dancers and Musicains stat migrate in the same manor they apply buffs.

Squad Leader What a waste of skill points this profession is in respect to the current state of the game. With everyone doing solo groups this is a lost profession. I challange anyone to find a Master SL on your server. If you find one, ask him what he does. I truely believe this profession could be removed and all the skills and ablities pass on to Creature handlers, Rangers and a little to the scouts. I for one do not think the Ranger profession is that useless, but it does need some help.

Those are my top 3 professions that could be taken out with little to nobody really caring by simple placing the skills and ablities with other professions that should have them.

Now my top 3 Professions that right, current game play situation, that need help

Combat Medic Group heals are amazing, love them, but there are very few groups to support. Diesease and Poison are great for PvP, which as died, but not very effective soloing PvE. Not to mention Doc buffs, the need to heal your melee fighters in battle does not really exisist. I would much rather bring a Master Doc along on any big game hunting. Buffs and Revives alone makes them far more important than any CM. Which brings me to, Revive should be a CM skill, I am not saying yank it from the doctors, but reviving a fallen group member in combat, HOW can this not be a CM skill?

Smuggler I will be the first to say, I look for a master Smuggler at least 1 time per week to slice a weapon or some armor, but honestly the poor smugglers do not have much. Sure they can sell faction points a discount, but the only smugglers that do this sell IMP points. I am sure rebel smugglers, once in awhile sell some. With food the way it is right now, spice has no chance of being use, I care spice for emergency use only, One full crate of Muon Gold has lasted me 4 months and still have over half of it. Spice needs a completey revamp and make it at least an option to use over food. SPICE time is low, dowers are bad, rebels get nail with it at inspections. So really all the Smuggler gets is 1) Slicing (but only great if master) 2) Last ditch (one good weapon shot) 3) and the imfamous FD. Would never want to get rid of the Smuggler in SWG, but man they need some help.

Creature Handler Since this is the CH forum I wanted to touch on a few issues. As a MCH I miss supporting groups with my pets, once again solo groups has killed this need. I for one have changed my play style to fit the game inviroment. I am a master swordsman and now I tank for my pets and have them use their ranged attacks. Ok so we do not support groups, thats fine, I like to solo during taming runs anyways. Taming, lack of tamable creatures worth having. Creature mounts, heck I a MCH and still will use my bike 99% of the time. There is no market for player mounts other than a novelty of having one. Tamable wild mounts, lets just say 9 out of 10 mounts I do train are BE mounts. Pet storage, there are countless threads on this issue not need to explain. I do not have a pet that would last 20 secs in a PvP battle. I would never drop my MCH, but I catch my self thinking, I am support, wait no I am not, no one needs me for that, I must be a combat profession, no wait, I tank for my pets and support them. So what roll do I play in SWG as a MCH. Still have not figured that one out yet. But one thing for sure is I love the profession and the thrill of the tame keeps me paying that monthly fee.

Trapping isn't useless at all. You only have to learn how to use it. Also if your scout you won't trap effectively on higer levels (nroken? no with a cdef pistol you can't kill a rancor either). That's why the ranger gives additional bonus to trapping. The part broken are some of the traps. Traps that do dizzy (creatures aren't affected by this) and such have no use. Camps, believe it or not, but I use them a lot. It's more because i'm always on endor where there's never a doctor. Going to the city gives me huge lag so i prefer to set up a camp to heal my wounds. Also the crafting station is nice in the last ranger camp if you're a crafter, though the droids made it obsolete. Meanwhile my pet can heal his damage. Forage is good for getting bait and creature food but should have been a lot better. All in all scout doesn't have that many useless skills. Whereas ranger has a lot of (almost) useless skills. But it's always personal if something is useless or not. 1 skill tree in be is complete useless to me, while most be consider it to be one of the best (tissue crafting). I find ranger great, with not that much bugs in it, but then i like to hunt without armor/buffs, and have a real hard time fighting a bull rancor..

I agree .... the only thing anyone would ever want from ranger is the tracking ability .....

I say give the maskscent, terrainnegotiation and tracking ability to creature handlers, and the trapping, camping and harvesting skills to scout, and make scout harder to grind (more XP needed)...
