This is just for my information, trying to get a feeling for whether this is a widespread issue. I'm on kind of a low end system (900 MHz, 512 MB SDRAM, GeForce4 Ti 4200 64 MB), and opening the Datapad to the "Data" section (where pets are displayed) virtually paralyzes my computer for 15 seconds or more. This is from all the work it's doing loading up the 3D models of all those pets, droid, vehicles, and now starships.
Generally this only happens the first time I open the Datapad during a play session. Once all those 3D models are loaded into memory, it opens pretty smoothly on subsequent attempts.
Do you experience this? If so, does it interfere with your gameplay enough to warrant asking for some sort of fix?

p4 2.8 ghz, 1076mb ram, radeon 9800 pro for the video. Datapad sticks for just a second. Almost like a glitch in the matrix.

Happens to me a lot, too, but I figure it is just a delay in loading the small iconic representations of the creatures. (Try opening the schematics tab when you're a master armorsmith/master tailor....takes my altover minute to get that page up and be able to start crafting when I first log on! Too many items to load with all their individual data, I suppose.) My system is a 1.8GHz, 1.5GB memory, GeForce FX 5200 (128MB), on a DSL line, btw. I don't see it as a huge issue, just a "loading" problem like houses the first time you walk into them. If there was a better database, maybe these minor things could be eliminated, but that's a dream...
If we're going to talk about the datapad, let's talk about the problems with icons:
1. Baz nitches showing a "control unit". -been around since Day One
2. Reptilian fliers showing a "graphics holder" (spinning black cube with a red question mark). -also been around since Day One
3. Kimos don't seem to show up in the datapad until you click on them. -just plain odd, really

784RAM 128MB Geforce4 Ti4600, 1.2gig AMD Athlon. I get about 5-7 seconds of total system freeze (I can still move the cursor though) before the pets load...

1.8 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, Radeon X800 pro (256 MB), T1 line... game goes a little choppy for a few seconds. Some pets don't show up in my datapad until I click them.

1.3 GHz AMD, 768MB PC-133 SDRAM, 128MB 9600Pro.
I get3-5seconds of "glitchy" behaviour before I can freely move my mouse cursor. Pets can take more time to actually display a rotating picture.

I have noticed this too on pull up screens ctrl I p c d o m v e. Its on all of these and its a serious nuisance. Here is the funny thing when the game came out these all ran crystal smooth for me. Now a year and a half later I have increased my ram by 256 and the video card I have installed is twice as strong.
Its obviously not in anyones pc. Its in the server stability. While my pc does have more programs running on it. I still have ample hard drive space. Plus with over a gig in my ram both in system and in graphics card something is seriously wrong here. My system could be stronger, but it does well enough to cover all in game graphics superbly. Plus I am running on a decent cable modem.
I do think this is a serious issue to bring up with the devs. I have also noticed an inordinant log on period for the game. Which blows my mind, because I have not running or even installed a jtl. Plus tonight I caught something even worse I have a floating covert overt status on my avatar. This is obviously a sign that jtl is not jiveing with the ground game. Because I only had this happen once before oh 12 months ago. Just after the cities came out.
In other words I think its a major server stability issue that is afflicting everyone. Personally I would have to say it is affecting my gameplay. Most definately needs a fix. Especially since its not just affecting chs. I have done everything in my power to decrease the strain on my system ram. With no meaningful effect. Whats worse is this is bound to lead to worse problems in the near future. Oh god no did you feal that it was a rollback. This needs to be their job one for a few days.

I think it is more the server and connection status:
My system:
2.4 GHz P4
1 Gig RAM
SATA RAID HD 150 MHz
and I can still have lagg like that from opening things in datapad or inventory.

AMD XP 2400, 1500 MB SDRAM, NVidia GEForce FX 5600
I maybe have a second or so of delay in opening my datapad. Though when I first started playing the game I had a Pent III (1.2MHz? Something like that), 512 MBSDRAM, same vid card, and I don't remember that I had any probs opening up my datapad. Think it still only took a second or so.

Going by your description Vert, I have had this lag problem for a very very long time. More so in heavy non-player cities like Coronet or Theed. The creatures take a long time to spawn in datapad, my hard drive sounds like it's churning butter. Nvidia 5, 512Mb RAM, 2.66 Ghz

Datapad sticks for a second, launches, then my pets etc slowly appear.

P4 3.2 ghz
128mb Ti4600
1gb RAM
160gb SATA HD
Datapad is full of pets and about 90% full all told and I never have any 'lag' opening it, at least not enough to worry about it.
