Thread: Release your pets?

When you destroy your pet it says 'released into the wild'. Do you Role playing CH take the pet back to the planet you got it? Do you even find a group of the same animal and place your pet with them? It's a shame you can't release a pet and see it run off, rather than it just vanish.

If i recall correctly wayyyyy back when, you could release them instead of destroying them.
If im not mistaken back in BETA they dident vanish either, when released they turned back into a con'nable critter. Dont quote me on that last part as it was well over a year ago, and far too many changes have taken place.

If it was like that now, I could see BE/CH people releasing 20 kimogilas in coronet... god am I thankful they changed that.

Yeah, this was all real funny! I remember releasing pets and they would appear as the creature right in front of me and after a period of time would disappear. Back then, you could call another creature out and attack them to get CH XP too... or as one TKA was doing once....he was training Cu Pas...the unresponsive ones to his training would be released and killed in front of the spaceport.....now That wasn't so funny. They stopped it all though when CHs started releasing aggro rancors (kimos didnt work back then) in towns and cantinas....only back then there were few AFK dancers...we're talking first month or 2 of the game. It caused alot of hate and I think it was one of the early steps towards the hate CHs had against them resulting in all our nerfs.

Hmm. I missed all the fun

I think I'd have had a fit turning my babies loose and watching them go off to be eaten on Dath or somewhere. I stlll feel guilty about the one I did let loose on there and that was under the current system.

Mind you eating spammers does have acertain sick appeal he he I must admit.

In the first month and a half or so after relase, when you released your pets, they existed in the world for a time. You could even retame them, but woudln't get any taming XP for them.

There was a problem with a$$hat CHs (and there were many then, because CH worked for the most part, and the other elite professions did not, so the powergamers flocked to CH) releasing rancors in the streets of Coronet or Theed and aggroing other players. As somoene indicated above, that probably helped inspire a lot of CH hatred...that and the fact that anyone with CH could control a rancor, and there were a lot of rancors running around.

Didn't think about people releasing them in the cities. Such a shame.

I don't remember people releasing pets into the cities, but it used to be if you released your pets they ran back off over the horizon and out of sight, in Beta. I believe the animation was client-side only. The Devs removed it because they thought it was just useless coding space.

I also remember early into live, like July 2003, that released pets ran over the horizon and disappeared.I was new to CH then and hadn't tried the profession out in beta but I saw that it looked like so much fun that I had to try it in live.Back in my newbie CHdays I didn't realize that Release meant to release it back into the wild.. I thought it was the command after you sent a pet to Attack and you wanted it to stop fighting and Release from battle to come back to you. I remember saying release and learning what the command reallymeant as I watchedthe little dewback baby I had worked so hard to find run away over the horizon outside of Bestine. I was so sad. I'm almost glad that we can't see them run away when we let them go any more. I always feel guilty as it is when I have to make room in my datapad and one of my little buddies falls victim to the "making room" decision.

I'd prefer to have the run away animation back . . . even though it says we released them back into the wild, it also says we destroyed them. I feel like I've shot some of them in the head.
