Hi i'm a CH and swordsman (not master in either yet but working on it). ok dont get me wrong i love CH and dont plan on getting rid of it for anything, but just what are we good for???? i wonder around attacking lairs with my sword and pets. but thats about it. Is there anything we can do with our skill.

Docs can heal and buff

BE can make Creatures and tissues for tailors

Artisans can build/make things

etc....

but what are we good for? can anyone give me some ideas how i can use this skill other than using my pets to tank!!!!!

Well, tanking is the primary purpose of pets as the system seems to be designed. It's a tremendousbenefit if you like just wandering around without buffs, as I do. It'll be even more of a benefit (theoretically) after the combat rebalance, when everyone but us takes it in the shins. Pets can also be used to boost mission difficulties for higher pay (I regularly do 24k Janta missions, and I don't even need buffs since my pets take most of the damage); granted, you can get in a solo group at the Mining Outpost and do 30k Janta missions, but then you have to deal with the inane chatter of Mining Outpost people. A lot of it is about collecting, too. I love logging in each day to see my latest tame grow a bit bigger, even if I know I'm probably going to delete the pet or give it away.

I don't think our profession, as it stands at the moment, is about a direct role in the economy or even a direct role in combat. It's sort of a playstyle thing. I like having pets as companions, even if they're just little bits of code that occasionally disappear in combat. I like bouncing across the purple plains of Dantooine on a mountain dewback. I like walking into a cantina followed by three different rasps. If I'm out fighting nightsisters or harvesting enraged rancors, then I'm buffed to the nines and my pets are stored. Most of the time, though, my pets are a substitute for buffs. I find I usually have a better time in-game when I'm not constantly working against the ticking clock of buff timers.

To make you an itemized list, though:

-Creature Handlers can roll higher missions alone than any other profession

-Creature Handlers can have 12k-plus more HAM than your average player in the form of pets.

-Creature Handlers have access to poison, disease, and every status effect in the form of pet specials. Granted, some are buggy, but it's still an addition.

-Creature Handlers can actually have a very slow speederbike shaped like abio-engineered dewbackthat has 12k HAM and the ability to eat Meatlump Buffoons alive. Really, it's true!

-Creature Handlers never have to be alone. Gurrecks might not be great conversationalists, but they're terrific listeners and they never correct your grammar.

-Creature Handleris the only profession in the game that can actually make use of the /forage command. Pets love fruit and veggies!

Aaaaanyway, Creature Handlers aren't really worth the points from a min/max point-of-view, and I thank the stars for that. I love semi-broken professions because the only people in them tend to want to be there. The second you become a fad of the moment, the property value around you drops dramatically, and nobody wants that. It would be nice if we had a role in the economy, any role in the economy, but I'm currently satisfied with what I have. The biggest advantage of Creature Handling is that it gives you alternative goals. If you're a full melee character, your only real goal is to kill stuff/people, get stuff, then kill more stuff/people. With Creature Handling, there's a massive variety of animals to train, lots of different tricks to see, and the ability to make a newbie happy by giving him/her a saddled kaadu. It's not a bad life.

That's pretty much about all we are good for mate. Not really a big money making profession here as far as on the sales end. If ya have good pets tanking missions is about it and even with my most baddest ones of the pack it still takes abit longer then most professions to run threw a mission which is kinda sad considering I command hudge beasts that do less damage then for example a TKM. The Devs kinda boinked the CH profession up the rump shaker with they nerfed it. I remember being scared when I first saw a rancor in this game and when I first saw a TKM dispatch one in two seconds I remember thinking how sad and unreal is that. lol

Now I am not saying nerf TKM's they just happen to be the example I am using, but I do feel MCH's should be able to command more powerful pets then what they currently do in order to compete on a level close to that. Like Kryte Dragons and such. People say well you can't have an uber pet, but get real the AT-ST's are damn close to uber and still able to be taken down and we can't even command pets close to that range of power. I say Kryte's cause i have personally hunted them several times and they are an awsome beast of power. The fact that we are limited by a control level of only 70 is an insult in it self. Sorry if this sounds like a vent I just been on Dant. this morning waisting stims healing my pets taking out lairs that disapear. lol In short only thing this profession provides is tanks and the ability to collect pets that no one else can which since they took the ability to store pets in your droid data pad away doesn't leave ya much to build your collection on. My advice is to collect pets that you know will best serve you in combat situations. Good luck.

I really wish more people would be CH again. With the BE revamp you can get some truly cool pets ( i saw a squall -little rabbit thing- with 12k ham, 350 damage and strong disease strong poison with a ranged attack the other day, how about that for evil in pvp) and if more people had CH I think areas like the death watch bunker and corette would be much easier. One time my guild went with a master CHand it was the easiest time we had of the corvette, the pets soaked up lots of damage while we ran around doing the mission objectives.

I plan on going Bounty Hunter and Creature Handler for help doing bounty missions. Right now I use my lama looking gaulma (level 12- 2500 average ham, with 18% kinetic and energy resists) and he lasts just long enough for me to stick a dizzy kd on the mark, but I think it will be really helpful when I get some higher level creatures to tank jedi muhahaha.

CH are now really just a support role now. It seems the Dev's swapped out the Combat Medics as support with CH's as real damage dealers.......

Don't apologise, I thought the exact same thing when I read the subject.

CH is nice for solo play on those nights when no other guild members are on. We are still a good PvE group, one of the few that can pull LV 70 missions and solo them un-buffed.

I still need to figure out how to do this. I go to Endor with 70 levels of pets, my carbine in hand and my droids out and I can only pull lvl 51 missions. I'm just *barely* able to pull a blurrg mission by myself.

Not that I have anything to spend my money on anyway, but I just get twitchy when I'm under 200k and can't make it up in under 4 hours.

Well considering since the revamp One of our issues is that we lost our niche in the game, that answeres your question.

Essentially the only thing a CH can do that Armor/buffs can't do better is pull much higher missions Solo (grouped with pets).

BE pets are getting harder and harder to find, because of the reduction of CH across teh board (one of the reasons I gave up CH as well, Inability to find a BE that would put teh time /effort into makeing good pets because it wasn't worth their time).

The revamp made it so unlike other professions where dabbleing can get you benefits, there is no benefit to dabbleing in CH. You really need to master it to get any benefit from it.

The community has developed a general hatred of CH. Our pets steal their XP, they are big , they cause lag (a complete falacy), tehy are useless (painfull but has a ring of truth to it)

The devs acknowledge they crippled the profession, unfortunately JTL has the priority and then they think the combat revamp 4-6 month down the road will fix everything.
