Not sure where I heard it but someone told me to master scout if I was going to go Creature Handler. I mastered Scout but I don't see any benefit besides harvesting. Is Scout usefull at all for a CH?

Trapping doesn't do much for me but the mastery does give you a harvest increase and terrain negotiation bonus. Also the tents are good for healing in the field.

Full Terrain negotiation when not prone, and the ability to see a Creatures Level.

If you master Scout you get the bonus Terrain Negotiation. The traps, they are you will need, if you ever need them at all. Harvesting bonus, always a plus. Camps, keep from you having to go into the city to get healed, except battle fatigue.

With Master Scout, Master CH and Master (combat profession), you still have enough points left to pick up the three boxes of Ranger tracking relavent to PvE, handy for hunting rare or semi-rare creatures.

I miss beinga Master Scout and even a Novice Ranger.

Perhaps in the next couple of publishes, Master Scout/Ranger will be viable again, but as the game stands right now, Master Scout won't really give you much of an advantage.

Once you begin taking on higher level creatures, your rate of Trapping Failure increases, which just wastes your HAM and Combat Turnswhen you could be using that on more effective Combat Specials. So Trapping is useless.

With Armor and Buffs, Camps are all but a useless time sink.

Creature Harvesting is cool, but if you dedicated those extra skpts. on Mastering an Elite Combat Profession to accompany CH, then you can take on much higher level creatures which produce a much higher harvesting payout, anyway.

The only real useful benefit to a CH who is also a Master Scout is being able to examine Creature Levels. But you can just as well goto swgcreatures.com and find out all you need to know about the creature in question beforehand, or after.

Like Gadon pointed out, those Ranger skills are nice to have (I'm novice Ranger 3,0,4,0)- makes for a well rounded CH. Better terrain negotiation, better camoflage (masked scent), better harvesting, better tracking (great to have), better able to identify creature's abilities (especially special attacks).

Also, I was at Fanfest and some where down the road (unfortunately not any time soon though), there are some very good things in the works for the Ranger/Scout profession as relates to traps, tents, foraging. Who knows, maybe they'll even do some good things for CH too

If you're not going to pick up any Ranger skills than I'm not sure you need to master Scout. At the moment, there really is little need for tents and what need there is can be satisfied with the basic tent skill. So, you might want to skip the survival tree (except for survival I for the basic tent). The traps at levels I & II are kind of worthless, though I have found the phrenacine dart (level III) and adhesive mesh (level IV) to beuseful. They have allowed me to escape creatures - or allowed others to escape - on countless occasions.

I don't see traps or camps being worth the skill points. I found leveling the traps line impossible because they're so ineffective that I very rarely used them in combat. And tent sitting is a slooow way to heal. I traded those 2 disciplines in for some basic medic skills and a medical droid. I can heal myself more quickly andapply my own stims to my pets if needbe.

While terrain negotiation and harvest bonuses are always good, I don't think it's worth the rest the point sacrificed to get to master.

The tent you get atsurvival 4works much faster. Also having a guest or two speeds things up. Plus its very useful if you are way out or on a less populated planet. I actually use tents all the time. The trapping was simply to get the master bonus which is minor but nice. Plus its the only master I have at present since I'm new and working on rifle and CH slowly. I can also pop up a tent, call a pet or vehicle, and tear down a tent faster than the delay timer if its needed.

I also keep novice medical so I can use stimpack B.

Onebig bonus Master Scout gives you as a CH is enhanced maskscent.

This allows you to sneak up past mummy and daddy Rancor to steal thier babies that much easier.

(Don't remember seeing anyone else mention this, if they have, sorry).

Its sad how they've boosted buffs and armor to the point that so many skill trees are being killed. Stupid how they listen to the most vocal minorities and kill so many possibilities for everyone else.

DaBudo2, just a quick note to say that the extra terrain negociation from Wayfairing is fairly useless, as it only applies to crawling. You get the full TN for upright-movement from Master Scout. Camo is also pretty broken at the moment, its actually less effective than maskscent, possibly even at Master, it doesnt work on NPCs like it says it should, and its very resource intensive.

If your main focus is CH, its really not worth going past Ranger 0030, that allows you to track anything except other players, and you can afford to master a combat profession along with CH with the points you save.

Im probably going to mix and match a bit, Im not sure, but I cant honestly tell anyone else that the majority of Ranger is worthwhile, theres just some of us who're willing to put up with it

With Trapping 4 in Ranger I could get all the traps to stick to Enraged Bull Rancors, not every try but often enough to keep them stunned and their defenses down, so I a MCH and 4443 Ranger with 1001 in Rifle and two halfgrown spiders could take them down quite frequently. Of course I take them down faster as a MCH/MRM. but I enjoyed being a MR and may return some day.
