Much hype is made of returning SWG to a more "Iconic", closer to Canon state. As such, we are receiving the NGE. Unlike others, I happen to believe bringing Iconic status to the professions is a wonderful change.

However, we are losing many unique and vibrant classes, chief amongst them Creature handler. While sad, it's possibly the direction this is leading WILL lead to the experience we ALL have been asking for - A more "Star Warsy experience.

As such - I humbly submit that Creature Handler IS an "Iconic" profession. Look to the FAQs - Each "Icon" is represented by a Film example. Since this SEEMS to be the justification of "Iconic", I can provide the Iconic example of Creature Handler, in the same format used by Tiggs in the FAQ.

Creature Handler=Rancor Tamers (Return of the Jedi)

Creature Handlerscapture and trainthe galaxy's various semi-intelligent lifeforms. You will learn to use the inate abilities each creature possesses in battle, and train them to even Entertain the masses.

When someone needs a creature tamed and trained, they hire Creature Handlers to do thetedious work. Tracking down andtaming creaturesis whatCreature handlersdo best. As a Creature Handler, you must learn the tricks of trackingandcapture so your potential petdoes not escape.

General Skills:

      • MeleeCombat (Must be able to fend off wild animal attakcs)

      • Creature Tracking

      • Ability to train Pets to act as Mounts

      • TamingTechniques

Specials:

      • Embolden-Improves your pet's attack at the cost of Defense

      • Enrage– slows your pet's movementbut increases Defense

      • Savage Fury– very high damage pet (ability) attack

As you see, there IS "Iconic" status evidence to support Creature Handler, and a way to impliment them in the SWG universe.

Rancors kept as pets is iconic.

I used to have the "Jabba's Throne Room" playset when I was a kid. Luke could be plunged into the pit wheremy Rancor model used to try and tear him apart. Meanwhile, Jabba slid forward on his throne to watch his pet!

Very Nice

I think alot of people remember the Rancor (aka Creature) handler at Jabba's place a little more that some of the other Iconic characters they are using to base the 9 classes off of.

There is no excuse why Creature Handler, Scout, Ranger could not have been rolled up into a 10th Iconic class and all would be well.

Well I guess you can cross your fingers and hope that maybe it will be a part of Force Sensitive. The old pen and paper SW RPG and pre pub 9 had animal affinity as parts of it.

Appreciate the adding of the name - The reason I used "Rancor Tamers" was that is how they (2 in jabba's Palace) were refrred to in the shooting script - You can't et much more Canon than by using the Script, right?

Doesnt really matter whether CH is iconic or not, if there isnt a class they can port into SWG and skin for it, it goes bye bye.

I mean look at the newprofessions, is SPY really iconic, no, its a rogue skinned for swg and then made iconic as Princess Leia decided to play dress-up as a BH once.

Ironic, isn't it?

Sorry; I had to say that.

Now all we need is to figure out how to port CH to a "twitched-based" combat system. I mean, its fairly easy to see that there were CHs in the Star Wars movies, as well as all of the ones in EU, but how do you make pets work with twitch?

If you read in the NGE general discussion someone brought up the idea about an Iconic: Chewbacca. I know that he was not a CH in the movies but wookiee had bonuses in the CH area plus they are forgetting one of the most like characters in the movies as a Icon. I can see that CH is around 1% of the player base when there are players working on CH all the time. I know that CH may not have the numbers it use to have preCU but there are a lot of us out there still. I remember seeing toon preCU running around with a couple of rancor behind them or groups having the creatures standing in the dath outpost while they were in solo groups or whatever they were doing.
