Thread: Does this mean the 30 sec timer is not going in?

I appreciate all your great feedback so far. Thunderheart is out on vacation which is why you are not seeing a lot of Dev responses on this thread in the last few days. I did want to take a little time to update you on what we have decided in regards to changes to removing the camp restriction for calling pets, droids, mounts and vehicles. We have decided to alter our changes so that calling a pet, mount, vehicle or droid will work like normal without the new time delays when called from a Scout camp or inside a city. Effectively, this means calling a pet, droid, mount or vehicle will work the same in Publish 7 as it currently does when called from a Scout camp or city. When calling outside a Scout camp or city, the new changes will apply.

It means that in city or in a camp, the delay won't be applied (which shows that Rangers need a lot of attention to their camps, cause right now, besides healing wounds, the only other purpose was calling pets out), but outside city limit or camp, the new effect will be in.

Another word, they still haven't gave us a reason why they did it in the first place. Thunderheart on a vacation, seems like he's been on a vacation for a while anyways. I wonder how much he gets paid for sitting at the computer and just telling the developers what the players want, in which case he's not doing a good job anyways... least from my perspective.

The way I read it, it's "business as usual" if your in a city or camp, but if you call a pet/vehicle and your not in a city/camp, you'll wait 30 seconds and then it'll be called.

Best of both worlds. Nice to seesome uncommon common sense.

It makes no sense, common or otherwise. We petitioned to have the campsite requirement removed, not replaced with other equally annoying and pointless requirements, nor supplemented with other equally annoying and pointless requirements.

When we're THANKFUL to go back to how things were, there's been nothing good done.

Main reason I think is that right now camps were only useful for healing wounds and calling pets. If they allowed CH to call their pets without a camp, the Ranger community will be pissed because those are the only 2 functions now for them, besides helping to heal the ham somewhat.

And I guess the developers don't want to piss another profession, so they try to make a compromise, in which case it's still pointless, and they need to make the rangers camp better (wonder if they even read the good ideas the rangers have posted about regarding their camps).

Nah... I don't buy that this compromise has anything to do with rangers or scouts.

I lost count of how many posts I read in the CH forum alone that said "at least do away with the 30 second delay in cities and camps...." So that's what they decided to do I guess.

While there was some uprising from some scout/rangers about the camp deal initially... I don't think the vast majority think it's too much of a big deal..... As a master ranger, I have NEVER thought to myself that I was glad to have anything better than a basic camp kit for the few seconds it took to pull a pet or vehicle.... that's just a waste of resources.

The ranger community has put forth some great ideas (as you pointed out), and we are hopeful there will be some improvements soon.

Actually a guild member was pretty upset when he heard about the ability to call pets/vehicles without camps (he's a master ranger), since overall besides the crafting stations and such (which isn't a big deal since droids have that capibility), those really big camps are kind of pointless. I guess a nice thing is the ability to repulse aggressive creatures.

They should allow a ranger to leave their camp up for so long while they're not in it, depending on the type of the camp they deploy. Right now the fact the moment they get into battle or gets attacked by some AoE attack, then their camp they setup gets disbanded.

actually if you read the main thread about the initial change, the way the devs have now implemented it is how a majority of people in this forum wanted it - No delay in city or camp, but a city or camp isn't needed to pull a pet.

I hate to say it but I think SOE did good

Granted any timer on pets is stupid, but now we can call pets/vehicles in the wild without having to waste time gathering bone and hide to make factory runs of crates so we can call our pets when they decide to auto-store, stop following us, or to switch out a worn down pet.

If we need to quickly cycle through multiple pets we will still need a tent (as waiting 30secs for each called pet is crazy) but it beats the current system.

So, we keep everything we already have (call pets at will in town and tents) and can now get the addtional bonus of calling in the wild for FREE!!!

It's a win win situation!!!

No, it's not really. The initial objections to the 30 second delay was outright, in all situations. After a while, the comments about cities and camps appeared, almost as a giving in to the dev's erroneous thinking.

10 units of hide and 5 units of bone? What, one resource gather per 3 or 4 lairs? Nah.

Being that I'm no longer a CH, this 30 sec timer doesn't effect me anymore (well besides vehicles). However, I would say CH's won a partial battle, the timer will not effect you if your in a camp or city. I still say there should be no reasonto have a 30 sec delay tocall apet, not vehicles, whether your in a city, camp, or wilderness. But hey, the devs did meet CH's half way. Everyone spoke up, Vert did a good job obviously, it was changed to something both sides could live with for the time being.

At least people who want to call a pet without the 30 sec timer can still do it like they do now, with a camp. It might not be the perfect solution, but the devs did listen and compromise. I have to give credit to the devs, they have fixed (at least to the best of my knowledge) the pet running bug, standing on top of you bug, and now this news of a change to the camp restrictions in Patch 7. At least CH's know they are not completely on /ignore.

Fantoq,

I've always maintained that the 30sec rule on pets is stupid. I have wrote post after post explaining this as many other like me have. All you really need is a 60sec combat timer for all pets and vehicles and problem solved.

If we can pull out pets in cities with no wait and have no problems why is it a problem all of a sudden in the wilderness?

SOE just does not get it. They are stuborn headed and are bent on adding in time sinks and restrictions whenever they can. They justify this by claiming some unknown and mysterious exploit that no one else seems to know about but them /sigh

However, the way I look at it is:

  • We keep eveything we have now (no "nerf")

  • We get the additionalability to call outside of town without a tent with a 30sec delay

We loose nothing but we GET a new ability. Yes, there is a mindless restriction placed on it but it is better then nothing IMHO.

Quote "If they allowed CH to call their pets without a camp, the Ranger community will be pissed because those are the only 2 functions now for them"

How many of us depended on a ranger to get our pets out anyway? I dont know about you, but i make my own camps and pull out my own pets thank you

Having the 30 second delay makes no sense at all. There is no exploit that I can think of, and like others said........ Should we now have a delay on all combat classes to use their weapon? It would only be fair.

1) Nerfed by the CU - Annoyed

2) SWG destroyed by the NGE - Pisssed

3) Cancellation to nerf the dev's pay check, priceless!!
