Long ago when the galaxy was still young and the people nub-ish, there was a breed among all others that stood apart from other professions. Their weapons, creatures. Yes, this breed was called the Creature Handlers, or CH for short. Long before the nerfs, CH wasadmired byits allies and struck fear in the hearts of its enemies. They were the group, that every person wanted in big hunts like the krayts of tatooine.
The CH had strongcompanions with him, Mine for example was the GSP or the Greater Sludge Panthers. Strong felines that had amazingly strong defences, 65 kinetic 100 acid. And the best part of getting the GSP u can bring out 3 whenyour a Master Creature Handler. Now after the many nerfs they were brought down, and now a less desirable creature.
The patches, also one of the reasons that the CH class was dying. The CH also got a little improvement, but the improvements was not as better as others. The BE, or Bio Engineers, had the ability to make stronger creatures, better than the CH could ever tame. And the Docters, who now could buff people. There was no reason to have a creature when u have a person who can tank aswell, or even better. The CH had the mounts, but the Artistians could make Vehicals, which were faster than the creatures could ever gallop. The only good thing about CH mounts is that the creature could ever break and never need repairing.
Now as old veterans, we see the seasons change and we had to adapt. We seen our friends leave and we made new friendswho arejust starting the game. We seen the professions change and 'revamped' and wehave seen the jedicome and ruined thegame. We given a holocron and a painting, and both was sold at high prices.
With the new game 'Jump to Light Speed,' we are unaware of what is gonna happen to the professions that we have now. Some believe that it will become better some say it will get worst. All i know is that the creature handler profession is gonna be extinct by then, with no desire to have creatures in space.
Its great seeing new players takeing up the profession and keeping the spirt up and barely keeping it living but it also sad that my fellow veteran CH are giving up the profession. Now i too am giving up my MCH to go on the paths of other professions but its kind of sad seeing this dying breed die.I see it coming and i see it coming soon. but this breed would always have a place in my heart.
"good bye my old friend i will miss u so. and until we meet again...."

i dont think CH is a dying breed, the CH's who were around for the FIX(what some called a nerf) have taking the CH fix to hard and just like you have quit. There are alot of people getting into CH and finding it fun and entertaining, i dont see a whole lot of things really seriously wrong with CH, yes there are things that could and should be corrected in a publish sometime, but i do not see how
it is a "dying breed"!

This nerf as some veterans call it, I don't see what the big deal is. So now you have to move up higher in CH before being able to command more powerful beasts. I hardly think that is the end of the professions's playability. That's why I took on Novice CH last night.

I've said it before and I will again.
The problem is not the power of our creatures, the problem is the ridiculous strength of player buffs and armor.
Yes the Devs could throw us a bone by offereing an MCH special mounts and a zoo/ranch/stable to store pets etc...but the combat side, I think we are just right---but the rest are f'n ridiculous.

The nerf was all most if our all natural pets had theyr stats lowered with rare pets that either do not spawn or are spawning once evryother month and for a limited time frame. yes there are some pets still strong but very few and many like myself enjoyed the act of finding and taming our pets, if we want strong pets we must buy them and half the pleasure of CH is gone. yes they gave us many things but each time something was taken from us. we were the first part of the combat revamp then it was stopped and postponed to next year. so now we are out of balance with most proffesions that is why people speak of us as nerf'd if the revamp went as we were origanally told then many might not feel that way today. but the truth is once we were needed by most in battle now we are needed by few. our role is falling into the "group your pets so we can get higher missions" is it a dying proffesion yes and no I am still asked for by my city friends for help with hard lairs but only when the jedi's are not online and no buffed melee fighters. yes I am 3rd choice except for the can you group ur pets and leave them here for us to get higher missions. it is getting old and i find myself wandering away more and more. but wandering to where?? no new babies no rare babies i gave up o the ultra rares after months of failing to find them if they even excist. the prowling gurreck was the rarest and last natural pet i tamed for myself and that was within weeks of them first commin out.
People are correct in that we were nerfed but only because no other proffesion was balanced but us so we are even more out of balance than most. its all on your opinion and how you want to look at it.
Will we die off? no I do not belive so others will come some die hards will stay. but we shall never be what we once were at least not for a year at the earliest
So this gentleman is right in his own way because it is sad, I love CH but find myself sitting more and more saying what should i do today, with no answers :-(

The whole thing is...
Creature Handlers suffered some major hate, more than anything you have seen since then. Before the SWG Discussion forum was closed, it seemed as if every other post was a rant about Creature Handlers, I am not kidding. Many times did I argue with people in a mindless, rage (no kidding).
Then Creature Handlers were told that we were being "revamped" and that MCH's would hardly feel the pinch. And it was labeled as the first step in the combat rebalance. Plus to eliminate the overpowered dabblers. The BE revamp happened at the same time.
But the truth is. This was not a first step in a combat rebalance, because they had no basic combat rebalance plan in the first place. The proof of that can be seen from TH's posting history about the combat revamp and the recent announcement of the GCW and Combat Revamp being delayed yet again, but this time it was delayed for JTL (a whole 'nother can of lies)
So there is the blow that CH's have recieved being led to believe that all combat professions were right behind us with a revamp, which is now delayed until next year.
Plus, the fact that BE's started to figure out how to make pets that were far more powerful than anything pre-nerf CH had at a much lower CL. Thus making overpowered dabblers possible once again.
All tameable stats were nerfed (Armor and kinetic resists being the main stats nerfed) and we were not given the CL 50 and under tameables that we were promised. We were given rares with mediocre stats, some insanely rare (another can of worms) and we have been forgotten and isolated ever since.
We have even been insulted, intentionally or not, by Thunderheart.
Why is JTL in focus? Because CH's, thus far have no place in it. And we hardly have a place in SWG and our only true usefulness is to ourselves.
Our feedback has been ignored. Our questions remain unanswered. And we are stagnant as a profession...
(though it must be said that many professions have been ignored as well)

well if you cant have any bit of faith in the devs or SOE then personally it amazes me while you are still here...
just find it funny, people cry and cry, complain and complain about the game, insult the game, put it down like
an ill fated dog at the vet, but they still log into the game and have failed to cancel their accounts.

i agree, there are a LOT of people getting into CH, im often in mos eisley, and im often with my pets. i often meet noobs that are interested in CH and start getting a few boxes of it. i stay in touch with plenty of them and over the next few days and weeks i'll get a tell asking questions about pets or for advice on which skill to learn next.
but unfortunatly i often bump into these same 'new' CH's in coronet or on dantooine a while later. i ask them how theyre getting on with CH and almost always they tellme they dropped it. the reasons are few to be honest, phrases like "none of my pets worked as well as getting a buff so i didnt see the need in it" or "getting the xp was taking so long and i didnt feel that the pets were really strong enough for the time, effort and skill points i invest on them" come up a lot. "the mounts were cool but so much slower than my speeder" is another one that i hear a variation of quite a lot too.
they all found it fun though, tracking the pets down, the tension of the taming process, the thrill of a sucessful tame, they enjoyed it. but it wasnt worth all the time and effort for them in the long run. i guess there's about 2 dozen novice CH's ive helped out in the last two or three months and of those i know of only one that is keeping CH. just one. and no hes not going master, he just wants enough boxes to keep a GSP.
were dying cos the number of players coming into the profession is less than the number of players leaving it! no matter how much we protest and how ever many ideas we throw at the devs, they know that in the end, we really will go away.

Lyc,
We never said, not one person in this post has said, "I hate CH so I am getting rid of it." Not one.
After more than a year of MCH I believe we have the history and perspective to state some things that are the reality.
We have said them over and over and over and over on this thread.
I decided to take a different course. Instead of typing and emailing and being ignored I wrote a letter. Yup an old fashioned Hard copy, snail mail letter to SONY and LucasArts.
In this letter I basically outlined all of the short comings of the developers, TH's and JustG's lies (promises that do not happen). I quoted their attitudes toward the paying customers and I suggested that someone from higher up in SONY take a look at the customer support and service area of their electronic gaming division.
I don't know if it will do any good but I decided that these forums are a joke.
Why?
Because every suggestion that has ever been suggested, every objection that has ever been stated, every wonderful idea that has ever been expressed by this forum has been completely and totally ignored. That folks is not customer relations.
I asked for and strongly suggested that they look at this particular forum (CH) and some of the other forums (BH, Pistol, Carbineer) and read a few of the posts to find out how universally TH is loathed. I then said that I felt that it would go a long way to improve relations if they simply fired him because of his lack of ability to communicate clearly and honestly and in a professional manner that observes the rules of courtesy with their paying customers.
I sent this on Wednesday, and now I await to see if there is any response.

I'm sorry, but I have tried to have faith in the devs. But if you were around for TH's blunder with DE's and with Factional Combat Insured Items Blunder, not to mention the TOTAL lack of creativity with the FSCS unlocking, the constant delays to the GCW and Combat Revamp, then finding out they have been lying the entire time, then being maringalized by Haden Blackman, all the while the devs have this holier than thou attitude, constantly reminding US to "keep it constructive."
Truth be told. These developers are incompetent. At times, it seems like they want people to quit...Message Edited by Aakhperkare on 08-07-2004 12:45 PM
THIS IS THE TRUTH.
The good Devs (Holo and Q3PO) got bilateral transfers off the project.
RuinedSabre could not find his ass with both hands, a flashlight and a road map.
Haden, TH and JustG are the fall men for RS. RS "supposedly" had this outline for the Combat Revamp. Now Haden states there never was a "real plan". JustG stated there was a plan, TH constantly referred to it, and Haden dismissed it.
SO guess what that is.... a big friggen lie.
Before the CH Revamp, we were at best 4th in power. The game in and of itself was seeing the end of CH as FOTM. Hell even, I contemplated what is the use of being MCH if a MBH can take out my pets in 20 seconds. That is prenerf, and what now that they can do it in 10 seconds? I am sposed to be elated?
BTW. Lyc 4 accounts gone. There is my faith in the Devs. IF you are a new CH likely you will not have the resentments we older CH have. **edit** me once shame on you, **edit** me twice shame on me.
I have learned a lot about choices and consequences recently. More than I have in 36 years. If I were to choose to pay my account for another year, I would have to face the consequences that the Devs are liars, incompetent and will say anything to string any player along one more month.
The facts are, the have lied, they are clueless and they do not listen. For that alone, I will not play any game that JustG, Rune or TH are members of the Dev team. The only way to get results in the near future are to protest in published mediums. They may not feel they need to answer in their own forums, but will they answer letters to the editor of gaming magazines.
