Thread: when cb comes will ch be useful?

I've said it before and i'll say it again.

Rancors for instance. Rancors are considered by the devs to be "Soloed, but shouldn't be."

Now if/when the CB goes through, and rancors are made as the devs see them, do you honestly think they will let CH's have that power?

I think the CB means more bad news for CH's...

if you are using a pet to take down a rancor you are not soloing it in my opinion,

when you are equiping a pet you are basically forming your own personal team, therefore

i dont see how this CB will hurt us.

in my opinion it will make us more usefull, not too much but just enough to make

us have more pride in what we do.

Think about it. If rancors will be made powerful to the point that they cannot be soloed, and CH's can control that power plus have an elite combat profession at the same time, what do you think is gonna happen?...

i dont need to think about anything, just as i said by saying "in my Opinion" i dont see how any of this CB will hurt us,

even if they do make it so no one can ever take down a rancor without seeking out a group, i could care less.

besides no one should be able to take down creatures as big as rancors, hell luke skywalker did it, in ROTJ but he would have

been devoured if he didnt cause the door to slam on its head.

Aakhperkare's point is that if a single person is not allowed to take down a rancor, we cannot be allowed to have a pet that matches a rancor so that we can take it down.

The devs have basically said that a person and their pet should not be more powerful than a person. Given that, we have a vicious nerf cycle as long as it is possible to use a weapon and a pet at the same time.

I agree with seriuu
SOE has no idea how to achieve balance.
The combat revamp is gonna lead to a endless cycle of nerfs.

We are already useful, well, at least a bit. We tame the pets from BE's and mounting some nice pets.
When it comes to combat it seems that every pet class in every MMORPG has a big problem: the pet and the owner are considered as too powerful. The result? The nerf-bat hits and no one wants too play that weak pet class anymore. All I can remember the best balanced pet class was in EQ, the beastlord. Only problem was in groups this class had basicly no function. Damage-dealing was the only thing and even that was mostly done by all others class much more effective.
I think this also applies to SWG. We are a damage-dealing class but in a group we have no other function. But as long as the others class can deal out way more damage than we do we are no "must have" in a group.
In PvP (I mean the GCW and not duels) we are totally useless at the moment and also will be in the future, because we are not allowed to call for our pet when our life is in danger. I dont think this will change with the revamp.

Overall this class has its potential to be very useful as a tanking class, if they dont nerf the pets.

I would like to add that I will always play my CH since I think this template fits best my interests. I tried a pikeman on another server but I really miss my little fellows.

We are still useful.

Pets can hold aggro and take damage for us if we have another combat profession.

I use my GSP to keep the attention of Maulers, Nyax goons, and Tuskens all the time, then I move in with the FT to toast the NPCs to a nice crackly crunch.

Pets also do good work against other creatures in holding aggro so you don't take damage.

Now, admittedly, if you're fully armored and buffed, the pet is superfluous.

Which is one of the serious problems with the game; back when it first launched, the concern was that a CH could solo many things with the assistance of his pets and a decent damage dealing combat profession.

Nowadays, TKMs cut huge swaths through near top of the line level creatures and NPCs and barely break a sweat. I went enraged rancor hunting with some guildies, two TKMs, a novice TK, and me the master commando, and I BARELY had a chance to bring the FT to bear on the enraged rancors. We cut through them like they were gnorts or something.

Players are seriously overpowered, which is why the combat rebalance is needed. However, the second the CR hits, the CHs will appear overpowered compared to the newly nerfed players. And, as Seiryuu indicates, the cycle will begin again. Because the devs frankly are winging this. There is no plan. If there was, it was chucked the instant they kicked Holo upstairs to get him out of the way. The first thing they did was go after his favorite profession...us.

just as it sounds. From what I understand about the CB to come (and i know its not final or really even anything more than speculation) there will be a nerf on armor and buffs. Will that mean that our pets will actually become usefull? I only started the game in march and just started ch 3 days ago (1/1/0/3) but I was thinking that a good tank pet would actually be a good thing.

Your thoughts?

that's the general consensus. CH won't be changed initially since we're already reset for the balance. just that everything else will be nerfed to bejesus and back like we were.

however, as history has proven, all it takes is for one ignorant dong to yell out "pokemon" or "pet wars", and we'll be seeing a whole new generation of nerfs.

it's a mixed bag. we won't be touched for the rebalance, but after the rebalance we'll probably see another nerf since we'll be at the same position we were at originally.

Useful for what? PVP I've always said just gimme some armor or a PSG for them and they will be usefull. I made over a million credits yesterday using my pets to tank Jantas so my pets are very useful to me.

I guess it's all relative.

( Before you flame, I know the issues, I want a stable too. I'm not too worried about level 100 pets if they give me armor I'll be fine, and if rare pets spawned more, then they wouldn't be rare. Also while I'm on rare's, The Goblin shark is rare, but not as tough as a Tiger Shark, the Koala is rare and it doesn't kick any ass. The Blue coastal butterfly is rare and well you get the point)

Geez I guess I needed to say that.

The real question is what is more rare.....The frenzied Graul, the bull rancor, or a Dev responding to the CH profession?

Sorry didn't mean to hijack....yes we apparently will have more of an advantage when armor and buffs get nerfed. Again I say leave the armor and buffs, just give some to our pets too.
