Thread: Tanking Canyon Kryats

For those who think CH is totaly useless....
My guild did a Kryat hunt the other day. We had5 people, me (CH/BH) my wife (rifleman/CM), a TKA/BH, aTKA/riflemanand a novice Rifleman.
We took on a spawn of one juvie and one Canyon Kryat. I used a BE rancor (think normal rancor with some extra kinetic resists) and between me and the CM keeping him healedhe tanked 4 Canyon Kryat's and two fo the Juvies. (one at a time of course). The TKA/BH stepped in a couple times but mostly tanked the Juvies that sprang up while we fought the adult.
The pet worked great, we hardly lost any armor condition. We got plenty of scales and tissues. I went through around 30 pet stims, and there was only one party death (me cause I got careless on the final dragon).
No, I can't solo the things by myself asI couldn't keep it healed for that long, but I'm sure just my wife and I could take one out using my pet to tank and targeting the mind pool (me with BH her with Head shot and poisons).
Can a master buffed and armored TKA tank them better? Sure, but you know, If I can tank one of the toughest creatures in game successfully I don't care if someone else can do it a bit better.
Pets are not the tanks they used to be when any player can out tank them.
I'm waiting for the nerf cries to start up again after the combat rebalance though, IF pets become the main battle tanks again.
I'd be curious to see that. It may be possible although the pet's larger ham gives you more leaway, aka less of a chance of death between heals and such. Anyhow I think every profession feels the fact a newb in buffs and armor can tank effectively is more of a central game problem than a problem with creatures. Take away buffs and my CL35 pets tank better than any single profession in armor can. See its not realy pets vs classes its pets vs buffs that grant insane regeneration rates.
Still fighting Krayts is not useless even if someone else can do it better. Useless is not being able to fight them at all.

Pet stats...
From memory
CL 56 Ham 12500 or so each bar, Kin 56%, Acid, Cold & blast in the 30% range. Dam 530-540 I believe. To hit .60 speed 2.03. Intimidate/Stun
I made him from Rancor, Bark Mite and Merrek Harvester DNA.
Sory for mispelling Krayt, never liked that tame very much, too much like crate dragon which just doesn't sound sexy.
Anyhow, I was suprised he could tank the Krayts as well. He required some pretty constant healing by me and ocasional healing by the Combat Medic (I just couldn't keep him up alone.) For me it was a bit of a drain on my stims, but for the CM it was farily light work. She would fill him up, I would maintain for a while, then when he gets to about 25% she would come in and fill him up. And when his mind got too far down I'd /follow /tame /attack to get his mind up. Between heals I spammed the Krayt with eye-shot to help it go down. I was also using a looping specials macro which seems to keep the Krayt's attention quite nicely, although the specials only landed on rare ocasion.
I use Pet Stim C's and have novice medic and some good StimB's although I didn't bother using those on my pet.
So I'm just saying it can be done. If you find it easier to do the tanking yourself, that's cool, but it worked fine for me and If I tried to tank I'd have been paste. I don't have 80% Composit to burn through and don't spend millions on quality food. The crate of stims I'be been using for the past month cost me about 30K.
Bottom line is my pet tanked the Krayts, we had a great hunt, killing 4 adults and 4 juvies, and nearly no one got killed. Sounds like a missions successfull thanks to master CH.
good job!! /tiphat

Whaaat? Docs can buff pets?
Indeed you can, although they go away when you store. Also after patch 7 or so I noticed the no longer regen at all when not in the data pad. Not sure if its a bug or (working as intended). If they got player style regeneration rates our pets would be amazingly strong. They do have secondary stats, but they don't seem to have much of an effect on pet performance.
