I'm currently on Lok trying to tame a Perlek Scavenger and a Spined Snake Recluse for non-CH friends. Both are less than CL 15 and have a Ferocity of 0 but I can't tame either ofthem (I have 1-2-0-0 CH skills). However they are red on my radar so does my inability to tame vicious creatures refer to ferocity or aggressive?

Thanks for any help in clarifying viciousness.

You can not tame aggressive animals (red dots on radar) until you have taming 2 (unless you are a wookie).

I finally got Taming 2. Yay!

Now at 2/2/1/1 I have a decent wild tame skill. Does that skill have ANY effect when taming an agro creature, or is everything based on vicious?

From a player's POV how would you check that?

Your tame skill doesn't affect what you can tame but only how well you'll do trying.

Dunno if anyone would want to go through the trouble of taming 1000 creatures just to come up with statistics showing whether tame wild affects vicious creatures or not (from a logical POV i would assume it doesn't affect vicious creatures)

Um, since vicious is isolated and wild is generalized, it would be fairly easy. Namely, if wild has no effect then a 2/0/0/0 could tame no more than a 2/4/4/4, which is very much looking like how my climb up the tree is going to look like. Furthur, vicious tops at something like 50 while wild hits 90. Does this mean my chances of taming a high CL agro critter will be slim relative to non-agro?

I gave up on trying to figure out how this works so I came up with this plan of attack.

You go up to a baby creature and type in /tame. That will answer your question, heh.

- Tame vicious only applies to aggressive creatures.
- Tame wild applies to non-aggressive ones.
- The wookiee bonus applies to both (+10).

At master your bonuses will be something like +50 vicious, +90 wild. You can wear BE clothes that give you another +25 to both.

So if I was a Master CH and I wanted to tame a level 68 BE pet that is normally aggro, would I need to increase my Tame Vicious score to +68 or will my +70 Max Pet Levels suffice?

The +Tame skill does not quite correspond to control levels, although it does have an effect under the right circumstances.

If your Max Pet Levels is very high while your +Tame Vicious is low (say 2-4-4-4 for example), then the level of aggressive pet you can control will be under your maximum. A rough guide is that you can control a pet 15 CL above your Taming skill. BE clothes will help in this case, even if you have not learned any of the Taming line and is of course limited by your Max Pet Levels.

In your example of being a master and having a CL 68 BE pet, you would actually need only a +5 or so modifier. Non-wookiees can call up to CL 63 and most report being able to call their higher pets with just a few points of taming clothes.

I'm confused as to how the Taming Vicious Creatures mod works. I'm pretty sure that vicious means aggressive, am I right?

Now, before MCH, you can get +35 Taming Vicious Creatures. Does that mean that until master, you can only ever tame up to CL 35 aggressive creatures? and at MCH, it's only up to CL 50? How do people tame the really nice pets then? I know swgcreatures.com lists alot of "tameable" creatures that are above CL 50 and aggressive, so I must be misunderstanding something.

I think Taming Viciouse Creatures only helps with taming viciouse creatures. There are plenty of agressive high levels, ancient fliers for example. I got a pair of pants that give me both a +15 Taming Wild Creatures and Taming Viciouse Creatures bonus. If Taming Viciouse Creatures effected your tamable level, then it wouldn't be an equipment bonus option. If it was, then I could immaging a bonus for Max Creature Level.

The Taming skills are arbitrary numbers that give you a rough idea of your skill at taming. Tame Wild goes to +90 and Vicious to +50 at master, I believe. So in most circumstances, you will find it easier to tame a non-aggressive pet than an aggressive one.

Your "max pet level" is the skill modifier that determines the highest CL you can tame. This is absolute and matches the real CL, so if it says +28, you can only tame creatures CL 28 or lower. At master, the highest pet you can tame is CL 70.

Now the part that causes confusion is how these two relate to one another. You will almost always be able to tame a wild creature up to your max CL. I'm not sure it would ever be possible not to given the way the modifiers are distributed. However, since the Tame Vicious skill is only given in one line, it is possible to be unable to tame an aggressive creature even though it is within your max CL. At master, everything CL 70 and below is tamable though.

BE clothes can help raise your two taming skills. In general it makes taming easier, and it can even allow you to tame and call aggressive creatures without having the Taming line! Currently Tailors cannot make these clothes due to an unaddressed bug, so if you can get ahold of +25 Taming clothes at a reasonable price, I recommend buying them.

Species bonuses, Wookiees and Ithorians(?), also add to the Taming skills. Because of this, they can tame aggressive creatures before other species have the skill.

pre-cu u needed taming clothes to tame high level viscious creatures (like bull rancors at CL65). even after the cu u needed be-clothes (or be-food) to add to your skills when taming high level viscious creatures. there was a statement from the devs, that they plan to change this so a master ch should be able to tame every creature he can control (upto CL70 that is) without additional mods. i m not sure if this is implemented already as there are some posts in the forum stating that they couldnt tame high level viscious pets (not the "cannot tame that"-bug - but 20+ unsuccessfull taming tries until the baby despawns).
i use a +25 taming shirt (under my armour) but i also needed 10 tries for a reclusive shear mite baby to tame - but only 2 tries for a gaping spider hunter. so there is still a lot of randomness in the taming but be-mods are surely a must have when taming high level pets.
