Thread: important question about slots and ability teaching

hello all,

after I had a bad few days I slowly come to find a fair bit of abilities on pets that I then work out of them during my afk times. I know most of u would say " ur no real CH then" but hey, I dont have the time to work out hose pets by active playing... the time to grind a high level creature to get enough training points and slots is more then enough investment....

... however, after I unlocked a few abilities now , i wanted to teach my CL 24 crimson razor that I used most time during my grind for MCH... first thing I really was disappointed about is that I wasnt able to teach the cat immediatly a level 2 ability but ok, that may make sense, first to teach the equal level 1 ability, then level 2...

... but now I also recognized that each teach requires a slot, no matter if its a new ability or just a higher level ability of something the cat already can.... is this true? Would mean that the maximum of level 3 abilites a pet can have is just 3 abilities at all ( coz Im sure i red somewherethat pets can have a maximum of 9 slots ). So my question: each ability needs its own slot? for example:

Slot1/9: bleeding attack 1, costs: 15 points ( ?)

Slot2/9: bleeding attack 2 , costs: 45 points ( ? )

Slot3/9: bleeding attack 3, costs: 60 points ( ? )

so a total investment of 120 points and 3 slots to get bleeding 3 on a pet, thats right yeah?

may look to u as if Im a n00b, but Im new to this CH system ( as we all, but I guess theres a few more experienced CH players around ), so any advices?

thx

Actually it can have 4 Level 3 abilities, if it hasa Level 3 ability already when you tamed it.

Yup, right.

Wrong. This is why you should read the stickies so you dont get incorrect info. The number of slots is dependant on the CL of the ept.

according to my experiences innate abilities dont count against the ability slots.
i trained around 10 non-CH mounts since the patch now. every one of them got 4 ability slots in the end. 2 of them had an innate ability and both got their 4 additional ability slots. so they ended up with 5 abilities (if u count each level seperately).

the same happend to my CL32 Gurrecks (cowardly and crazed). the crazed gurreck came with a level 2 innate whereas the cowardly had a level 1 innate ability. when both were fully trained the crazed gurreck had 1 ability level more then the cowardly - so they both added the same number of ability slots thru training.

so of course i cannot be sure if this works upto CL70s with an innate level 3 ability, but from the above expiriences i guess a high level pet can have 4 level 3 abilities when it has an innate one. it looks like innate abilities dont take away trainable ability slots.

i tamed CL10 carion spats, cupas and lowland brackasets.

the only CL10 pets that only got 3 abilities for me were my kashyyk bantha and a cupa - both i received/tamed pre publish 21. to my experience pre pub 21 tamed pets and BE pets get 1 slot less.

Every single Cu Pa I've tamed/trained Post Pub 21 (7 total) has had 4 slots by maturity level 10.

I was able to get 5 abilities on one because it had an innate.

Yep c-mot is right but I need to add also that BE pets only have 3 slots from my experience. I have trained non abilitied non CH mounts and ones with a special and they all got 4 slots by the 10th leveling. Even CL4 lesser dewbacks, so maybe your not going all the way to leveling 10 times or can try to level it a few more. But also remember once you train that last ability you get no more slots EVER so always leave a slot open until you are sure you will not get any more.

The stickies are a decent guide, however they are not very accurate regarding the slots of a full grown pet yet...

My observations (and these are still somewhat anecdotal at the moment):

  • CL 10 and under get 4 slots.
  • People are claiming high level pets are getting over 10 slots.
  • Pre-21 pets have one less slot than a similar Post-21 tame.
  • BE pets get one less slot at the same CL, in addition to the Pre-21 slot lost.
  • An slot from a new tame does not count against the limit.

Not all specials seem to have a level three equivalent. With a few exceptions the biggest benefit is often from a level one special, with level two and three only giving a marginal improvement.

Of course. And what is wrong about what I said? I didn't say it will have guaranteed 9 slots, although most pets - not all - which have a level 3 ability are beyond level 60 and therefore will have 7 to 9 slots. I stated correctly, that the maximum level 3 abilities are not, as black-eye thought, 3. If the pet has a natural Level 3 ability already, it can have 9 slots which will be another 3 Level 3 abilities.

Maybe I should have written "can have up to 4 level 3 abilites, if it hasa Level 3 ability already when you tamed it.", to make it more clear.

The sticky isnt completly accurate anymore. I have a CL67 Kamurith Defiler with 12 ability slots plus innate marring storm L3.

This sounds like it's going to be a very useful pet! Nice one - and good to know too...
