Thread: A Suggestion on Combat Level and XP
I am CL 80 and love to explore and travel around. Most of the creatures and NPC I face are way below my CL, and that is okay. Some of them aggro me, some of them not.
Since this situation I hardly ever try to aggro them, that give me no XP but oe lousy point. If they aggro me and I am on foot, which I often am since I think it's cool to see places and I don't like stress around, I still have to fight them and that takes a while. No matter their CL it takes a while, but give me nothing back for it.
I also am a loot fanatic, trying to get every loot possible, including the ones that need to be put together. Unfortunately these parts drop from NPC that have very low CL. That is also okay since even newbies should have their chance. But that gives me no XP, but one point, no matter if it takes ten seconds or one minute to take that NPC down.
Many caves (static caves or quest) are protected by NPC with rather low CL. Every NPC takes its time to take down and at some cases it is close to death. But they give no XP, but one point.
Almost anything in-game takes its time, but the reward is none, except a few credits and some loot. Todays XP rewards are simply to badly designed. I don't mind the CL that is now much more visible, but the window is too narrow. Hence I suggest:
Keep the CL but adjust the formula somewhat. What about:
10 % extra each point above yourself (as it is today).
10 % withdrawn each point below yourself down to 50 %, then linearly down to zero, plus your own CL as bonus.
For example, you are CL 80 but was attacked by a mob at CL 15. Then you should get 15 % of 50 % of what a CL 80 mob would have given. Plus 80 points as your CL is 80. Another example, you kill a CL 1 mob, still CL 80, then you get 1 % of 50 % of what a CL 80 mob would have given, plus 80 points.
At least this would give some reward for the time spent and the elite characters wouldn't get that cheated of XP only cause they are attacked by low-end mobs or want to loot some stuff. But keep the points that low that it is no "business" hunting low CL mobs to get xp, taking on higher CL should always pay off.
