Moderators,
Lately the eclipse forums have become a mess. Instead of the eclipse community being used for positive communication and interaction they have become a method of communicating rumors, hate, and meaningless spam. I've decided to longer participate in these forums as recently several false statements were made about myself and think its a disgrace that people not only commit these acts, but continuously get away with it.
Banning users from using the forums consistently proves to be inadequate. Perhaps the point would be better communicated if they were not only banned from using the forums but also banned in game. Further more it is well known that people have several accounts. When one account is banned the wrong doer simply uses another. There are ways to handling this and yes it may require more work, but theSOE galaxy forums are becoming an atrocity. The Eclipse community forum used to be a fun place. Now myself and several other veterans won't even go there.
Hopefully some solution can come to fruition.What Iwould like to see is a posting from a moderator or SOE official in the Eclipse forums not just reminding the forums policies, but state the importance of sticking to these rules, and warn of increased punishments. Maybe this isn't the best solution but its an idea.
I feel that the enforcement of the SOE forum guidelines/rules is well followed. You moderators do a great job, but I just think something more needs to be done. At least in the Eclipse forums atm. Its a shame that the Eclipse forums have degraded to what they are now. Please help.

We do already ban people ingame for serious offenses on the forums, but
if you are experiencing these problem make sure to report the post.
Unfortunately we cannot read all the forums all the time and without
people such as yourself reporting these post the bad behavior will go
unnoticed.

As I'm sure you know I do this, but its just so unfortunate that the posts make it onto the forums in the first place. Do you ever follow IP's? Just curious because I would consider going back to the forums there if these abusive players were somehow prevented from using alt accounts.

How about returning the ratings option per forum, but only players of a certain rank/age/number of posts/etc able to rate the poster's post. Automatic banning based upon cumulative reports about that player by those with the rank to rate. High-rated players can even be banned from posting in specific forums even though they can rate others in their "home" forums. Correspondents, glowies, and mods immune and high ratings multiplier for determining postability in the specific forum. Feature available to correspondents and moderators so they can see the person's rating and reset it or declare that person immune or ban them immediately in the text on the left of every post to prevent exploits... if they see a regular positive poster receives many negative posts quickly they can react. 3 posts with reports minimum before someone is banned (only 3 would take a lot of negative response from correspondents and glowies). As posted above, use an IP tracker (not foolproof but good enough) for making sure one person isn't using multiple accounts to report someone. |

WellI really like the idea lastEE they would never put that much power into the hands of the forum populace and / or into the hands of the correspondents. It's abuse potential is just to high. (also it would cost development money and do think lithium would be able to make it work?)

Yeah and putting that power into people with inadequate experience would be to risky for SOE. SOE takes legal risks as it is with the forums. They could never ever ever take the risk of a non employee having such control/power without consequences such as loss of job. See I've never ever had any negative interaction or opinion of the forum mods and in fact think that they do an outstanding job. No this not an attempt to kiss buttox but if you've ever had to do what they are responsible for you would understand. Its partially why they need the good community members to act swiftly to the inappropriate posts. Can you imagine having to go through the forums in and out and then having to make the call of whether or not a person should be banned. Not all posts are so clean cut and are borderline. Then the moderator has to make the call. Its not an easy call. I just think we need a way of tracking those alt accounts better. Thats the biggest problem I see. Since an eclipse glowie stopped by there is the chance he knows why I started this thread. /Wave |

but yeah I do kow what you mean.... like cockroachs... they squash one account and within mins same personis back doing same thing on alt accounts

The server forums have been that way since launch. My advice? Avoid the server forum. I know I do as much as possible. Well, except that I've joined a new server which is awesome. I love Kettemoor. I've been on gorath since launch and I think we have more forum bannings, locked threads and deletions over any other server. Which is sad, really. |

I've decided this is the best approach and yes there have been multiple bans, thread deletions, and the likes since launch but its definitely become worse over the last months. I contribute this to disgruntled explayers that lurke/troll and current hate players. What can ya do? Oh well. I just stay out. Its a shame since it used to be fun in there. |
