I will most likely use this to explain both sides of this complicated issue (note: just a summary, not uber-detailed). Email me at [email protected] if you have more GENERAL points to add that I may have missed.

Do you guys think that the game has been sorely wounded with the debate on this particular XP change?

  • Side one claims that the other side is a bunch of, as many have put it, "whiners." They say that the change is good, because it stops the Jedi over-abundance, and makes the game more challenging (and also that there is a nice added group bonus anyway). They point out that there is a lot of other things to do in the game, other professions, other experiences to be had besides "the grind" for Jedi. They also call the other side hypocritical forcomplainingabouthow the high number of Jedi, and then crying over how they will not be able to finish their XP grind.

  • The other side calls the other group "uninformed." They say that they are not necessarily mad over the fact that the Jedi FS grind will be hard, but that other skills will be hard to grind as well. Some have pointed out that they have respec'd their skills to better truck in XP to the village, and are now stuck with templates complately useless to them. This group also notes that the bonus to the group is nothing compared to the total amount of XP gained from the new publish to the time before. They believe the other group to be already full-templated Jedi (which is somewhat true, but not completely) and note that, despite the fact that this game does not have as hard as a grind as other games, it should all the same be fairly lighter. The also think that MO missions are (and I have to agree) very drab as it is, and, at the very least, could at least be constructed to keep you a bit more gripped.

I would say take a vote in-game, but it'd be like the Lecompton Constitution (a little one-sided being that most of those in group two have quit).

I believethat this game of politics, just like the one created after the CU, are ripping up the community between the community and the developers. The community split between what it should be, and the developers split between what should be done, and so forth. Despite whether the publish was a good one or not, I think the focus should be on what the after effect will be. I know all of my clan (or at least 90 percent of them) left the clan after the CU. I had just commented to a friend yesterday about how I was glad to see the community finally repaired after the CU, and things getting back to normal.

What are your thoughts?

I think you've pegged it right on the nose. I myself feel like we should stop fighting amongst ourselves and start demanding answers from SOE. We can complain all we want to about each other but this whole fight was started by SOEs wizzpoor policies. They don't fix long term bugs, add no real content of any value past the first day and put out bugged expansions. Instead of fighting over Jedi population and power we should all have Tiggs and the rest cornered into fixing all the real bugs and adding content that is more inline to modern online games. Lets face it, this game is old now and they arent doing anything to keep it going like other game systems. Maybe an SWG2 would help but I wish they would just show a little more enthusiasm for what they currently have. SWG will never die. there are to many diehard fans who will hold on till the servers burn up. But I'm sure SOE could turn this into THE largest online game if they would stop messing around.

Yeah, I agree... and I also think that we should all face it, no player who has gone far in the current Village system will never advocate a publish that makes it harder to gain XP.

They should have just increased the Village XP amount (like making it 60:1 combat exchange rate, or something more reasonable like that) if they were truly pushing to squash the Jedi growth rate. Most of those who do MO missions are doing it for the Village anyway, and it would have allowed for those just trying to learn a new skill to be less discouraged.

I honestly believed that the Combat XP exchange rate was a good way of stompingthe Jedi problem(despite the fact I was very angered at first by it). I personally would still do the missions if they was a 60:1 rate, or even a 90:1 rate, but what they are making us do is a tad bit outragious.

But even then, I would hope that they would give a Respec so I could get the old skills I had before the XP drop. If I am going to drop my path to Jedidome,I should at least be allowed to revert my allot my skill points into a more reasonable template.
