So, Wing Commander, then a 20 month gap? That definitely needs to be filled in. Until yesterday many of us were almost Jedi rank and now its bumped to next year sometime.
Anyways, i just thought it d be neat to have forum rank be faction based. Say you pick your faction in your profile page (and of course, set a timer on how often you can change it).
Have Imperial and Rebel of course, then either a 3rd in Neutral, or several others (Hutt, Valarian, etc).
Then we could have a lot more diversity in gained ranks and icons, such as the Rank Plates that officers (most noteably Rebel and Imperial) wore in the movies.
Say you start off as a private, you d have the simple Single Color bar or something of the sort, then (using Imperial for example) you could reach Grand Moff, or Grand Admiral someday and have the dual row of Blue and Red blocks on the white plate (think Grand Moff Tarkin/Grand Admiral Thrawn).
Fill it all in and you have fun titles that could range from anything like Moisture Farmer to Royal Gaurd.

theres like 30 ranks i can think of for Imperial... even more probably.
Maybe little icons of Sandtroopers with different color Pauldrons per rank, escalating into little Officers.
