I'd say that one way to get a productive thread and to reduce flaming and trolling within these threads is to introduce a self-moderation mechanism. Allow a THREAD STARTER to remove posts to the thread. Understandably, it would be somewhat abused when the thread starter disagrees with certain opinions or views. Even with this possible abuse it would allow more productive threads to exist.

Your heart is in the right place but...
NO!
People would use this ability to squalsh diffrent opinions of all kinds. Just because someone disagrees doesn't mean they are trolling, frakly onec you put an idea out there on a discusion board it will be discused, and if others diagree with it they will say so, we cannot and should not change that.
The mods will decide what is inapropriate.
