Thread: What's SOE's policy on forum harrassement ?

Does anyone know what policy SOE follows on people that consistently one-star others ?

I got someone who consistently goes to my profile and one-stars pages and pages of my posts. A while ago she/he even one-starred condolences that I gave to someone who's family member dies, so I dubt that he/she even reads the posts.

I already messaged Garva about it to days ago, but no answer there.

Does anyone know if SOE does anything about that ? And where I should turn to to make this harrassement stop ?

i don't think just starring people could be harassment ... especially since it's optional to even use that system

No, that would be weird. Someone can one-star my freaking CONDOLANCES and that's NOT harrassement ? If that is not deliberatly trying to grief someone...

I didnt get your pm but unfortunately until lithium puts some requested features in (which they are working on ) without knowing who to look for its often hard to find the bandits. We consider it irritating that someone does this honestly it means little, star rating system does not effect you in any real way because even if they one star you your post is still visible by everyone. It would be abusable if it hid it based on one persons ratings of it but the system does not. That and most people have the default filter set to 1 which is equal to no filter at all.

Once lithium is able to make our requested changes the one star bandit problem will literally "poof" and not be an issue anymore.

Oh and moving this to the community forum

Garva if I may add my $0.02 on this issue, I"ll cc this to a PM as well. I think a simple way to control the 1star bandits would be to make a reply post mandatory for a rating. I don't mind getting a poor rating, if and only if the person gives a valid reason (at least in their mind) for rating it as such. Putting this in, even if someone were to not leave a msg, but a NT post, you would still see the poster.

I'm not sure what the php coding for this would entail, but it seems simple enough to me.

Sorry, but I don't agree.

1.My post rating went down from 3.5 to 3.1 because of the person one-starring 5 pages of my post. Most people's rating hover around 2.5, but I take personal pride in the fact that my rating is 3.5. It means that my posts are appreciated.

2. Some forum titles are dependent on the post-rating.

3. If someone asks for an item and I say "I got it on my vendor for x credits" and then my post is one-starred, it DOES affect me, because people will think that something is wrong in my answer because of the one-star.

If you say that you can't track it that'sweird, because the system has to keep track of who stars a post, because you can only star a post once. But good, if you say so, I accept that you can't track it.

But don'tsay it doesn't affect me, because it does.

But soit, the net-result is thatthis harrassement is notpunished. Thanks for clearing that up.

I am correct in stating that it does not effect you in any real (tangiable) way as far as your game or forum performance goes. And while some people do have a valid (high rating number) You do not get any special privileges from star ratings, which is why we redid the rankings with very little emphasis on rating. And while it does keep track of the ratings given to a post and the average rating an individual has given, it does not currently keep track of which post you actually rated in any way that we can access .... which is what we have asked lithium for in part.

So as I said before, I am telling you that while I understand that its a "pain" your rating is nothing to worry about, and if you want you can just ignore it for now, and hopefully they will be able to implement our new ideas soon which will make it impossible for any one person to "punt your star rating into oblivion"

Yes, well, you heard Garva :I'm supposed to let it go and don't mind being harrassed because "it doesn"t affect me". Sigh.

Good point! I know whenever I see an auction post one star, I treat it with suspcion.

If you say that you can't track it that'sweird, because the system has to keep track of who stars a post, because you can only star a post once. But good, if you say so, I accept that you can't track it.

This used to be the case, but for the last sixth months or so I have noticed that after a day or two it forgets that I have rated a post and I can re-star rate the post, if I wanted to.

I feel for you. I've seen where some guy gets one star'd relentlessly and when he posts about it for help, people go ina try to bump up the ratings, and in a day or two the Nijas have the guy's rating back down again. Some people are spiteful I guess.

One thing I have noticed is a tendecy for ratings to be polarized on some issues depending on how the person feels about the issue. This is common where there is some contreversal issue, with players on both sides of the issues. I know i've had more a few 3.5 rating posts. (not saying some of them weren't deserved though :smileywink

GarVa, just speaking hypothetically here, will the changes from Lithium be retroactive? In other words, will the rules for calculating forum star rankings change so that certainold one-starsfrom abusive1-star ninjasaren't counted?

Or are we just talking about a change to the forum rules for how one-stars can be given, which will only start to affect star ratings once the change takes effect?

(I don't plan to freak out either way; I'm just curious.)

For the record, if not for said 1-star bandit, Yogol would have the Squadron Leader title now...and the pinkish/orange-ish color is so much more pretty -_-

No, he needs about 2 more months or so... April 20, 2005, I think.... it's 16 months and a 3.1 average.
