A daily player, I haven't logged in since the CU and the blurb about Jedi being revamped yet again, except for floundering around for a while trying to figure out what to do...
As a medical crafter, I'm put into a position of putting my hard won, precious resources put at risk if I load them up into the factories, and later have the goods somehow converted into something that wastes their value. Over half of my enhance packs would be converted into something else, and the remainder of them will be converted in keeping wtih the CU Revamp, and I have no way of knowing if that conversion process will waste the resources I value and worked months and months and years in some cases to aquire. Why bother crafting and risking the resources? I can't do that, I'm in limbo.
As a pre-publish 9 jedi, since it was announced that Jedi design is on the revamp table again, what reason do I have today to continue the vapid grinding process, without knowing if that wretched waste of valued gametime is a complete waste of time progress-wise? And why have any heart to pursue progress on a template that will likely be changed? That next box of poison healing I've worked hard to get two, 3 boxes up, may be a false goal. So I don't have the heart to log the jedi avatar. What's the point?
Why is it necessary to rewrite any trees, why is it necessary to tear up the fabric of our ingame existance, rather than make measured modifications? Why is this game ina state of constant revamping, a state of constant Live Beta? Why is it that we don't hear about core design fundamentals until they're already in Beta preparations, so our feedback, such as it is, is far too late?
Example of an alternative modification (rather than a complete universe rending revamp):
HAM Modifications:
- Consolidate 9 stats into 6 - two each for Health, Action, and Mind
- Doctor Enhance packs are still 6 in number, for each of the new 6 bars of Health, Action, and Mind (3 Primaries, and 3 Secondaries)
- Doctor Enhance packs are toned down on a % basis, to narrow the gap between buffed and un-buffed
- Dancer enhancements now effect all of the HAM primaries
- Musician enhancements now effect all of the HAM secondaries
Typical Doc buff might be for 1100, typical Entertainer buff might be for 350, for example
The above would be a negligible change from the way we work now, but it would have the desired effect of balancing combat. The damages from weapons and specials still need balancing (power and damage), but again, keep the trees and specials largely intact, just tweek them in stats like damage.
Anyway, I don't understand why this is necessary as is, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do in the meantime, and continue to be offline for now, and I guess time will tell if I dont cancel my accounts as more info is released.

Because it's based on customer input.
The game was seriously flawed as far as balance and combat experiance. So they are gonna
try to improve it with customer input.
The game was going in the wrong direction as far as it's "street reputation"..
There where no 8 hour 1 mile long halo 2body surfing lines when JTL launched...
That's the end goal $$$$$$$$ .. but game needs to be fun first.
That requires the major overhaul.

the CU has just blown up any possibility of this game maintaining its unique and powerful position of being an actual experience beyond mindless body-count antics of all the stupid 1rst person and MMORG's already trying out there... SWG had a real life-- combat (yes), economics, crafting, questing beyond hunting, community and more... the complete conversion of this SWG game into "Luke Skywalker does EQ2" will allow us all to decide if we really want nothing but combat... even if it is "balanced" combat...
trust me when I say combat will NEVER be balanced.. that is a falacy that all true MMORGs must recognize.. the whole point of differentiation is that it allows advantages and disadvantages on many levels. The goal (yes GOAL) of every great player in a combat game is to find the most effective method of destroying each oppoonent you fight. Gamers always push things to the limit, and expose good strategies, power methods, even exploits... People are trying to win, and the sheer number of people in the game will ensure that someone finds the best method, for each and every situation.... as is always the case, the game controller (SOE in this case) will identify that top notch scenario, and nerf it... the cycle will continue till the next best combat method is discovered and so on... eventually the game gets nerfed back into stone age, with us all using clubs of brocolli to beat each other with, cause its the only true way to have fair combat (or some such logic)..... Then, when the game looks completely stupid, the game system comes up with a "CU" to start the whole process over again...
what would be smart is to just get a working system.. fix the bugs.. and stop tweeking the h3ll out of it... let it work... if something is completely out of wack, that is a bug.. fix it.. but don't start over because you did the whole thing wrong the first time... who says you won't do the whole thing wrong the second time...
whatever... no one cares anymore anyways..

They should cancel the CU right now, before the money slaves start breaking their chains.
