This is not a rant and I would appreciate if tons of people didn't reply to this thread. I suspect that if it's nine pages long, no one who needs to read this will because they don't want to sift through it all.
My proposed change is simple. Before the devs begin actual work on a patch, submit the proposed changes to ALL of the correspondents and give them perhaps 48 hours to make comments from the point of view of their profession/area of expertise. What I see, often, are changes being made and the correspondents seem to be notifiedat the same timewe are when they read the patch notes...at least I hope that's the case because I see sooften where the devs simply have not thought through how changes affect other professions or even the target profession. Each time this happens, they wind up pissing more people off that leave the game. At the rate we're going, they'll haveto have to consider merging servers or changing their strategy. I know this means the actual patch could wind up two days later than it could have, but the devs would do well to heed the advice of the people that are paying their salary rather than make up their own decisions internally on how best to go about things. On the face of it, the recent patches have been directed at resolving issues raised by players at the last fanfest, but I still believe that the correspondents should have some say in changes being made before it happens. If this is the existing policy....then you need to replace a lot of correspondents with people who are more objective.
