Thread: Small Update Request on a particular page of the SWG Website

I would really appreciate it if the SWG Network Status page reflected the actual status of the servers. Currently it shows all servers are up (or at least the last time I checked...lol); However, all servers are in fact down. It would really make me happy if the status was more accurate than just up or down...such as "loading" or "fubared". Its not a big deal I know, but it would be nice. Thanks!

Actually, that page is correct. The servers are up. They're just not hooked to the login server. Only the techs at SOE can log in.

But yes, there maybe should be a way for us to know that the servers are 'tested internally'.

Unless you and me and everyone else can log in and play, the server is not "up". Perhaps we need to work with SOE on the exact terminology used on the status page. lol. This isn't technically a complaint, it would just be nice if it were so. Thanks for the reply!

Actually, there have been times when the servers were actually up but the login server down. Anybody onthe serversweren't affected but all the rest couldn't get in. So by your definition the servers would be down then when that happens.

(I could start a whole tirade about terminology and semantics but I'm quite able to refrain myself.)

LOL you sound like a politician or a consultant. You are completely correct, in my book the example you gave is most certainly a down. I would also count network outages, and anything else that prevents normal use as "down". Now if they wanted to list the login server as down and the servers themselves as up that would be acceptable. I use the same definition that I use for my clients. If they can't work, the system isn't up. If you can log in and work, but not on the project you need, its not up.

Unless you jacked with your workstation in which case I will fix it and glare at you the whole time while setting up a particularly draconian user policy for your account. No you don't need weatherbug running in your toolbar. No if you install bearshare I will stick this screwdriver up your.... LOL I am kidding about that. I love spyware! I have made thousands this month alone removing it. Thank you spyware writers, for buying me all this neat stuff!

Time for a vacation.

I think thatserver statuspageuses a deamon that periodicallythat either sends a response request tothe server or listens to a broadcast by the servers. If no response is received, the game is marked as down. If the server reports it's loading then it's marked as loading. If the server reports that it's running then it's marked as up. The daemon then send that data to the login server and the status page. The deamon however has no information about any limits or filters that prevent people from logging in and the servers themselves have noinformation about who is allowed to log in or not.

The reason I think it works that way is because I used to play Ultima Online and one of it's approved third party programs was UOmonitor. It was used to track the status of the UO servers. And it received it's data from a server that got it's data from a deamon that worked in theabove way.

Edit: fixed wrong program name.
