Bug

Possable Fix

SOE Reply

Forum Issues, 30th July 2005

Below is a list + summary of issues users of the forums are currently experiencing - I've contacted both Lithtech and SOE about them - Lithtech say SOE need to ask them.. And SOE say "We have alerted Lithium to this again and again".

  • WYSIWYG (Working as intended, admin are not getting any of the errors the ENTIRE community seems to be getting)

The "What You See Is What You Get" editor seems to produce HTML tags the forum bans (style tags) - It's obious the admins have updated the forum to disallow some HTML in an update and not realised that the WYSIWYG editor is rendering it.

  1. Try removing HTML from the system and create a BB Code filter ([IMG] [URL] tags etc)

  2. Fix WYSIWYG Editor to not render style tags

  • FireFox Browser (Working as intended, GarVa says FireFox works fine) Seems the ENTIRE community is wrong again

When using Mozilla FireFox to brows the forums - The WYSIWYG Editor does not allow you to press submit.. The "Edit as HTML" button will sometimes just load the top of the page when creating a new thread.

  1. Fix the WYSIWYG Editor

  2. Automatically select HTML as the default error for non-IE sessions

  • Forum Ranking System (NOT Working, will be fixed as soon as Lithtech get around to it 4 months and counting

The forum ranking system still takes star rating into account even though they have been removed. Some members dont get promotions regardless of normal or star rank (I'm currently 2 ranks below what I should be).

  1. Query the database and give every member top star rating (May as well, it means nothing now and would be a quick fix)

  • Forum Sessions (Working as intended.. apparently)

The forum does not read the login cookie it leaves (or does'nt leave one, not checked) so when closing a browser - The user will need to log in again. The forum also looses the session once the looser has been inactive for more than 10 mins (When posting a long message it will ask for a login and not remember the message) [I had to copy this and paste it in to another browser window to post]

  • Obi-Wan Smiley

Has been broken for as long as I can remember! biwan:

Please post any Forum/Website bugs you have below.. I would also reccomend some sort of corrispondant for the forums - would be nice to have somebody who uses the forums to alert the devs to issues.

  • Shifty Smiley

:shifty: smiley is broken

  • Search Function

Search function seems to stop working every so often. When it is working, it often misses out results.

  1. Re-build the search index.

Update: Added :shifty: emote and Search function problems.

  • Fan Club Registration

When verifying an email address on a new account that is already linked to a forum account - the link produced will not work.

  1. Implement a system not allowing duplicate email addresses.

QFE, it bugs me we have a broken smiley. All those issues need to be looked at, I'd really like the firefox one to be fixed..its really annoying.

A Galactic Civil War fought not with glowsticks or lightsabers, but with blasters, lances, and how much guts you have. A Galactic Civil War which reflects the timeline, the destruction of the Death Star, the absolute control which the Empire has and the brave Rebels trying to break up that reign... The extinction of all but a few rare and special Jedi. That my friends, is the Galactic Civil War and that is what we have to aim for.

  • WYSIWYG

The "What You See Is What You Get"

update and not realised that the WYSIWYG editor is rendering it.

just load the top of the page when creating a new thread.

  1. Fix the WYSIWYG Editor
  2. Automatically select HTML as the default error for non-IE sessions
Firefox
is not an officially supported browser of Lithium and while they
constantly make improvements in compatibility it is not something that
shold be expected to change in the short term.

  • Forum Ranking System

The
forum ranking system still takes star rating into account even though
they have been removed. Some members dont get promotions regardless of
normal or star rank (I'm currently 2 ranks below what I should be).

  1. Query the database and give every member top star rating (May as well, it means nothing now and would be a quick fix)
This
is inaccurate, the ranking system does not take stars into account
however if you would have qualified for one of the ranks that used to
be star rated but did not have the appropriate star-rating before
the removal of the star system the system will basically skip that rank
for you totally and your next rank will be the one that matches your
current forum account legnth and post count. The forums do not
retroactively grant roles. There are some other ranking issues that
lithium is already aware of and fixing but this is not one of them.

  • Forum Sessions

The
forum does not read the login cookie it leaves (or does'nt leave one,
not checked) so when closing a browser - The user will need to log in
again. The forum also looses the session once the looser has been
inactive for more than 10 mins (When posting a long message it will ask
for a login and not remember the message) [I had to copy this and paste it in to another browser window to post]

The forums are currently set to log you out after 15 minutes this is not a bug.

The forums will not automatically log
you in each time you visit, this is a security feature since your forum
account IS tied to your login account. The forums can remember your
login & password if you choose (password does not work for
some users with IE and has been reported).

  • Obi-Wan Smiley

Has been broken for as long as I can remember! biwan:

Never used it so didn't notice, will mark it down

hmm? you even reduced the logout timer from formerly 30 minutes to 15 minutes now, regardless of all the complaints you get already?

ah well, i will just reload the forums every 10 minutes then to stay logged in, after all it´s your bandwidth, not mine

Actually
I was wrong, its 45 but if you close your browser window it will log
you out. Personally I stay logged in all day even when I'm doing other
things but I am usually back and forth in the forums frequently. If
your at work or whatever or alt tabbing ingame, its likely that it is
expiring yes. If you made a post and then within 10 minutes while
writing another post you got logged out that would be a problem. If you
logged into the forum, were idle for 30 minutes then started a long
post and got logged out before you submitted that would explain it.

I use FireFox, and I stay logged in as long as I don't close the browser, even if I do close the tab.

I do have to close it occasionally when the boss comes by though (even though this is my personal notebook).

I understand that Lithium might not support standart-compatible secure browsers but actually it's just a little JS issue that could be fixed pretty easy. If I write a fix will you patch lithium?

Theres been plenty of threads about poor biwan: . The boards recogonize the ":" and "o" together and make a smiley like that..it didn't do that before, oddly enough.

The most obvious solution would be to make it :kenobi:

BTW GarVa - The firefox issues are "member" accounts only.. Your admin account has a different WYSIWYG editor as you can post hyperlinks (and, I think you can use tables.. not sure),

Try testing the forums on a member account and not your admin account.. You'll prolly notice all the errors we have to put up with.

And, also, the feature stopping us from not logging in is nothing to do with the station accounts, as the planet side forums allow us to stay logged in

Hmmm, if your member account works, would you please save one of those pages so we can test the page with the problematic browsers?

Just press CTRL+S save the file somewhere and make in available on some random Webserver (if you have none, I'll give you one). If just want to try it here to see where the bug might be coming from.

I'll trade my member account for your admin account for a day

But this is strange, because these issues are obiously here.. because many people are complaining about it.

Please do his suggestion GarVa, you wouldn't want to be guilty of supporting a monopolistic company like microsoft by forcing use to use their internet explorer would you?

Search Function has been down all day, and goes down extremely often.

Unbelievably annoying when you want to find out prices on Trade Forums or just general information. biwan:
