I don't get it - how do I distinguish the star ranks from the ordinary ranks?

star ranks as the ranks that are higher but have lower month requirements.

you will see something like:

Required for rank 22 SWG Chief Petty Officer 24 month minimum
Required for rank 23 SWG Ensign 28 month minimum
Required for rank 24 (Squadron Leader) 16 month minimum 425 post <---- this would be a star rank
Required for rank 25 SWG Second Lieutenant 30 month minimum

star rankings no longer directly exist. The actual star rating system was pulled from the forums but peoples star rank appears to have persisted.
