Hello ,

I registered for the beta ( obi-wan trials) using my work computer. I was away on business and did not want to wait until I got home. It looked like it recoarded the my computers configuration. I thought I read something that said I could reregister to change my computer hardware information, but when I tried to reregister ( once I got home), it went straght to the register compleate screen. Do I need to worry about this ?

Thanks in advance

There's no way to change the information submitted, but they said (Garva maybe?) that the computer specs don't really have an impact on whether or not you get into the Beta Test.

So nothing to worry about.

Specs are more so we know what people we invite to beta test are using
computer wise and are not a major determination factor (not even minor)

If the computer specs are as you say "not a major determination factor (not even minor)" then why query them in the first place and give the impression during the registration phase that you are able to update the information if you're registering from a computer other than your gaming machine?

If many of the registrations came from users like me, who did register from a computer other than their gaming machine, then the information from "what people [you] invite to beta test are using computer wise" will be VERY skewed.

So what's the point of gathering the specs?

(Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand why the information was pulled if it's going to be incorrect and can't be updated by the registrar.)

That's a good point.

Wouldn't it make more sense to take the info from people who are in beta if the machine doesn't affect who gets in? (could either have a thread in beta forum or have people send it when they use the key to activate beta, which is more likely to be done from a gaming PC)

This covers the people who apply from other PC's and the people who apply, but then upgrade/change their machines, and so make the info you have unreliable.

There is another question but I doubt you are allowed toanswer: What are the factors if the computer type isn't used?

Agreed.

Interesting...in THIS THREAD GarVa's response is that during registration for TOOW Beta it tells you to make sure you're registering on the machine you're playing on....I never saw that message.

Then why don't I ever get an invite? I have signed up for every beta since July 2003 and not one invite. I thought it was because my PC is too uber.

I got to try one beta just before it's release because a friend of mine who has 2 accounts got an invite for both of them and was tired of me whining as he kept telling about his beta testing....

I did the same thing at my work computer as soon as I could but probably got in too late.

Howeverit would make sense if they did at least look minorly at the specs to kind of get a wide array of users and thier specs in the beta test. I have to admit I am not a rich person and am running on a sub-par machine

800mghz pIII processor

386 mb 200mghz sdram

80 gig hard drive

256mb geforce ffx5500 graphics card

I can run the game ok but I had to tone down the graphics prior to loading the game and once in game. I still get awesome rendering but whenever I go into a heavily occupied area like Dant MO it starts lagging bad till i manage to get out of range.

I can understand that SOE would not want to put too many of players like me in because of majority of players having at least the min req specs but you have to admit there are alot of people like me who have sub-par computers that will sign up and play whatever they can because they just love Star Wars.

just my two cents,
