By now, everyone in the SOE office (and for the three blocks surrounding) must know of the row caused by today's Friday Feature. Even the apologists are having a tough time saying anything good, mostly just pleas not to shoot the messenger (TH is being roasted, not so slowly, over well-deserved a flame fest).

I say: what messenger?

Two weeks ago we were told to expect CU info in a week.

Last week, we were told there was a delay, but that "next" week we'd get info on what the delay was. Also entertainer info.

This week, we got wallpaper.

Where is the better communication our new community relations manager promised? Where is the information promised? Where is the excuse promised? Where is the accountability?

TH has zero credibility left. Tiggs is iffy. Now Calandryll is quickly dropping. Shape up.

Almost every time we give a timeline we lie. And we *never* do it intentionally. Poop happens, that is we have emergencies, unanticipated challenges, the bugs take longer to resolve than planned and just the general friction and chaos you could associate with any large multi-location team organization combined with the large city of people who are our audience. Going forward you will see us state our development strategy, and when we are ready to work on something it will show up in the In-Concept, In-Development sections of the website. We will engage the community on the majority of the development we do. And most importantlywe need to publish things when they are actually done, that is working as designed with a very high quality level.

We have internal deadlines but if we publish to them, you (and we) won't get the results we both want. I'm a big fan of publishing to metrics, i.e. have we actually met the goals for this publish, including the designrequirments, fun factor and quality. If it is not ready, you don't want it. Really you don't.
