Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong board to be posting this on, I looked and this seemed like the best fit for a post like this. I played this game in beta, and for a bout a month after it came out, but I just could never get into it. Whether it was because of the bugs early on or the lack of people I knew online, I just felt like I had nowhere to go.
Additionally, I am an "achiever" and so I really enjoy watching my character progress into something significantly more powerful than what it began as, and to be honest I just didn't get that feeling when I last played this game. I never felt like a hero, I felt like some average Joe in the galaxy with nothing special to set me apart from everyone else, and I always struggled to discover my "hero identity" knowing that Luke and Leia and Han were already out there really saving the galaxy.
Lastly, There were several major balance issues when I left this game. I wanted to be a commando, and when I left this game commando seemed to be irrevokably gimped.
I really wanted, and want, to love this game. I'm an avid Star Wars fan and although I did have gripes about this game, running through my first sand storm on tatooine was an awesome experience. I'm also very intrigued by the new Jedi system. I hated the concept of perma-death, and the fact that there will be jedi trials and enclaves has me really excited at the possibility for a real mystique and mythology to develop around the jedi of this game. Also space expansion looks awesome! So my question or questions rather are these: Have most of the bugs from launch been ironed out? Can I, as an achiever and a PvPer, find satisfaction in this game? Will I feel like I have any effect in this world, can I be a hero? Lastly, how is balance (excluding jedi as I should hope they would be unbalanced.) Thanks so much for reading my long winded post, any answers would be greatly appreciated, and depending on your folks answers, I may see you in game.

Well, commando is still honestly kind of gimped right now. They added some new upgrades to the heavy acid launcher, but everything else still kinda sucks except the flamer and the har (since they're pretty much the same thing now, just different damage types). The flamer also isn't as good as it used to be because all DOT effects really got nerfed a few patches ago including the flame DOT, and the damage is suseptible to heat resistance now, not to mention almost all the new enemies have insanely high heat resists and medium to heavy armor (which the flamer still has AP0).
However, even with commando still kind of sucking, I think the game has changed significantly since beta and early release. Master doctor buffs are strong and readily available now, making fighting high level enemies a lot easier, not to mention armor is a hell of a lot stronger as well. 70% to 80% composite armor is easy to find in large quantaties, as well as 70% kinetic ubese. The devs have added a lot of new content into the game for you to see and explore, quite a few new dungeons and quests. Also, if you're looking forward to the space expansion now would be a good time to begin saving up the money or resources in order to buy a good ship when it launches.
There are also a lot of promising changes on the horizon, including the combat balance and the GCW revamp. I'll admit that the devs really disapoint me sometimes with the off the wall stuff they do, but overall the game continues to get better all the time.

I don't know if any of you can comment on this as well, but I remember early on in release a dev commented that a high level player should feel good being able to kill a stormtrooper. Now as someone who haswatched the movies numerous times, I know stormtroopers don't pose that much of a threat, and it really dissapointed me to find out I shouldn't hope for more than that in terms of combat skills. Thanks again for any replies you can give.

As a mater rifleman I can take out a full squad of 10 stormies in seconds.
If Im buffed as well, they dont even scratch me ![]()
To someone with an Elite combat proffession, stormtroopers are insignificant .

As valet said, stormtroopers are really not any kind of a threat right now to an elite combat profession. Hell, I could take out 2 or 3 at once while I was unbuffed and had no armor with only 2-1-1-2 skills in carbineer.
However, this is going to change soon with the big combat balance. I read somewhere that the devs said they didn't want people to solo stormtroopers or any higher level NPCs/creatures so that will probably be reflected in the upcoming combat balance.
Oh and also, you say in the movies stormtroopers were no threat but that really isn't true. Stormtroopers were the fist of the empire and feared throughout the galaxy. As obi-wan said, "only imperial stormtroopers could have such precision". Take a look at the opening scene of Episode IV, stormtroopers boarded the rebel blockade runner taking control of the ship while only suffering minor casulaties. The only reason why you've seen them going down so fast is because they were mainly fighting the "heros" (more like terrorists) of the movie. I mean, you really can't have the hero of the story getting slaughtered by a couple stormtroopers, so they had to go down fast and have crappy aim for the sake of the storyline.
And when they arent fighting immortal heros like luke or han, they're a deadly force to be reckoned with. You don't look like much of a hero to me.

Hey guys, most of you don't remember me, but that's ok. I was just curious on the SWG publics opinion of the game currently. I stopped playing about 3 months ago to play WoW instead. I was about to get jedi when I left. Should I come back? Are you having fun with the game?

I've been here since beta 3 on September 16, 2002 and never left this game to another, nor have I cancelled either of my account.. I'm as happy as I was before..
there's always something to do whether you powergrind or play casually.. its a shame some people can't figure it out..

It wasn't that there was nothing to do. I loved setting up houses and stuff. The problem was that a lot of people were leaving and the game was getting REALLY buggy.

I think it depends what you want out of the game. If you are into PvE without any risk of PvP and don't really care about the game deviating from the SW story, I would say come back. The game is improving.
But if you are a Star Wars purist and continunity and immersion problems really bother you, the game is only going tobecome less and lessstar warsy and more like EQ in space.

I have been gone since WOW was released.. So I guess it has been about 4 months. I was looking over the forums I don't see as many complaints as I did 4 months ago. And it looks like there has been tons of changes and most seem for the best.I had a couple of questions I hope somone could answer:
1.Is FRS fixed yet, meaning are ranks worth anything?
2. Has SOE done anything with jedi robes or do they plan to?
3. Does the combat upgrade have anything for jedi?
4. Can jedi wear backpack yet?
5. Is it worth quitting WOW to come back?
Thanks
